"There aren't nearly enough crutches in the world for all the lame excuses." Marcus Stroup

One definition of the word excuse is to justify something; to provide a reason or explanation for somebody's behavior that makes it appear more acceptable or less offensive.

Excuses give people a reason or explanation for their shortcomings, for not getting the job done, for not getting ahead in life. Excuses are popular. Excuses are plentiful. And make no mistake about it, excuses are pathetic.

I don't have the time.
I don't have the money.
I don't know where to start.
I don't know what to do.

It's not my fault.
It's not my job.
It's not my responsibility.

Let me ask you a question. Do these excuses somehow make your behavior appear more acceptable or less offensive?

I didn't think so.

"I will not take 'but' for an answer." Langston Hughes

Running short of excuses? Here are a few more; no ifs, ands and buts about it.

But it's not my fault.
But I tried as hard as I could.
But I gave it everything I've got.
But I did all that I could do.
But, but, but, but, but...

I don't mean to but in, but isn't using the word 'but' little more than just tossing out another excuse for not doing what needs to be done? Be honest with yourself; you can throw out a thousand reasons why you fell short. You can dish out a thousand explanations why you failed to make the grade. You can make a list of a thousand pages long detailing a litany of explanations and justifications why things didn't turn out right. For crying out loud, who are you fooling here?

N-O-B-O-D-Y.

If you truly want to get somewhere worth going, you better turn that excuse loose. And turn it loose today.

"A mind is as strong as its weakest think." Tom Masson

Life presents no shortage of obstacles to overcome. Problems occur. Troubles show up. Difficulties arise. Mistakes happen. So what?

You are tougher than your toughest problems. Way tougher. You are tough enough to plow through life's darkest moments; tough enough to overcome life's biggest challenges. You are more than tough enough to power through anything life tosses in your path.

You are tough enough to prevail over evil, to triumph over adversity; to achieve your fondest dreams. You were blessed with super charger of a heart, a tower of indefatigable power; a heart that is capable of taking you anywhere you have dreamed of going.

So why do you keep on making one excuse after another? Why don't you just get out there and make some noise, make some waves; make something happen?

Instead of concocting explanations why things didn't work out, why don't you get busy and work things out? Rather than making up all sorts of reasons why you didn't cut the mustard, why not cut through the excuses and make some real progress? In place of the phony-baloney justifications you give for not getting things done, why don't you get your rear in gear and get something going?

"It is often merely for an excuse that we say things are impossible." Francois de La Rochefoucauld

When you refuse to give in, refuse to give up, refuse to lose no matter what, you can overcome every adversity you face. Not some of them, not most of the time; but each and every one of them. By refusing to accept anything less than the very best, you take the 'im' out of impossible. And best of all, you leave the excuses behind once and for all.

William J. H. Boetcker said, "The individual activity of one man with backbone will do more than a thousand men with a mere wishbone." I urge you to forget the feeble excuses. And focus on making things happen today.

Don't wish things were better. Make them better.
Don't hope things work out. Make them work out.
Don't pray for a miracle. Be a miracle.

Stop giving reasons.
Stop providing explanations.
Stop the endless parade of excuses.
And start doing whatever you need to do whenever it needs doing.

By giving your very best each and every day, you'll start making some real progress. And start having the time of your life.

Power Pointer: Be strong. Be tough. Be you.
