Today feels like an all-out sprint. Just like the day before - and the day before that.

Constantly on the go, you're running here, hurrying there; doing everything you can to barely keep up. And keep your head above water. You've got things to see, places to be and a to-do list that's not getting done.

With too much to do and too little time to get it accomplished, you feel weighed down, snowed under and completely overwhelmed. You're stressed, frazzled and about fizzled out.

Sounds like you need a break.

When you feel your stress meter inching towards the danger zone, you need to wind down, calm down and slow down for a brief moment or two. Catch your breath. Unload the stress. Relax, chill out and decompress. Then get back in the game.

When you want something done, and I do mean really want it, there is a tendency to keep plugging, to keep moving, to keep pushing... harder, farther, and faster. And that's OK to a point. After all, in order to get anywhere worth going, you're going to have to push yourself; you're going to have to test your limits, you're going to have to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Then, when the going gets tough, you get tougher. When obstacles and problems arise, you find a way over, around or through. And you keep going.

While there is nothing wrong in pushing yourself, there's something big-time wrong with pushing yourself too far. Please don't.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that you quit at the first sign of trouble or back off the moment things don't go your way. But when you push yourself well past the breaking point, you are not doing anyone (especially yourself) any favor.

Don't have time to slow down? Don't have the time to unwind? Don't have time to get away from life's pressures and problems? Well, you better find the time.

If you don't turn off the noise, if you don't turn down the sound, if you dont turn back the incessant racket that drives you crazy every once in a while; you will burn yourself out.

And I mean burn yourself out BIG TIME.

In order to avert the inevitable burnout that going-all-out all of the time brings on, make sure you set aside some quiet time each and every day. Time for yourself, time where you let down and let yourself go; time where you shut down and shut out the world for a few minutes. Don't use the old "I don't have the time" excuse. That excuse is lame. It's lazy. And it's not going to work here. Regardless of how busy or swamped you think you are, you must find the time to unwind. Integrate it into your schedule.

Then take it.

Maybe you sit down and take your shoes off. Maybe you go outside and take a brief walk in the woods. Maybe you simply close the door and close your eyes and let your mind wander. Whatever it takes, just make sure you take it.

These calming, collecting moments, where you shut out the rest of the world, allow you to escape the aggravations that dog you. They allow you to take a breather from the hassles that surround you. Like a refreshing breath of fresh air, the soothing silence allows you to relax, refresh and recharge.

Once you get in the healthy habit of taking a break every now and then, you will start feeling better about yourself, your life and those all around you. Your mind becomes sharper. Your energy levels increase. And your productivity soars through the roof.

By taking time to relax, you start making time. You start making things happen. And start living the life you deserve.
