"Nothing is impossible; there are ways that lead to everything, and if we had sufficient will we should always have sufficient means. It is often merely for an excuse that we say things are impossible." François de La Rochefoucauld
You've heard the familiar refrain. Somebody messes up, someone fails to pull his weight; somebody doesn't do what he or she is supposed to do. Then, in the blink of an eye, someone chimes in with the old catchphrase, "there's just no excuse for that."
Of course there is. And that's the problem. There is ALWAYS an excuse for everything under the sun. There is no shortage of excuses you can employ at the drop of a hat.
Things didn't turn out the way you wanted.
You've got an excuse up your sleeve.
You didn't finish what you started.
You've got a handy excuse in your pocket.
You didn't even bother to get started.
No problem; you've got that one covered as well.
You didn't pass the test.
You didn't make the grade.
You didn't get it done.
Excuse, excuse, excuse on the way.
When you're tossing out excuses, one is just as good as another.
"Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else expects of you. Never excuse yourself." Henry Ward Beecher
Looking for excuses? Then look no more.
You've got a ton of excuses at your fingertips. There are bad excuses, silly excuses, and point-the-finger-at-someone-else excuses. Not to mention the weak excuses, lame excuses, and it's not my fault excuses. You've got excuses here, excuses there, excuses absolutely everywhere.
But there is one thing you will never have when it comes to making excuses. And that's a good excuse.
Oh sure, you can come up with a million reasons why things aren't working out. You can concoct a million more explanations, rationalizations and justifications for why things aren't going your way. But when the smoke clears, one thing's for certain, you can never muster one good excuse for why you are failing or falling short - not even ONE.
"We have forty million reasons for failure, but not a single excuse." Rudyard Kipling
Life is a challenge. You have pressures, you have problems; you have all sorts of difficulties you wish you didn't have to deal with. Things go wrong. Mistakes are made. You do not always going to get what you want.
You get hurt. You get down. You lose faith. You lose hope. And when you hit rock bottom, you are tempted to start dishing out the excuses; one right after another.
No, it won't be easy to let the excuses rip (almost sounds like an excuse already). And yes, you are going to have to work harder than you have ever worked before to shut the excuse factory down. But know this; when you stop making excuses, you free yourself to start making something happen. Something you want, something you need; something that can turn your life around.
"Excuse my dust." Dorothy Parker
Not getting where you want to go?
There's no good excuse for that.
Not reaching your goals?
There's no good excuse for that either.
Not doing what you love? Not living the life you seek? Not pursuing your passions? Not having a whole lot of fun? There's not a good excuse in the bunch.
Getting the picture?
All of the excuses in the world will never move you one inch closer to fulfilling your date with destiny. So here's an idea. Forget the excuses. They don't help you. And you don't need them. Why don't you turn the excuses loose and start redirecting your energy and effort in a much more productive manner?
Start thinking positive thoughts. Start taking positive action. Start moving your life in a positive direction. Instead of wasting time making one excuse after another, start seeing, being and doing the things you have always dreamed about. Get busy living. Get busy having. Get busy chasing the best life has to offer.
After all, there's no good excuse not to do so.
