"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." Margaret Thatcher
You have just pulled through a pretty rough stretch. Maybe you endured a financial hardship. Perhaps you battled an illness. Maybe you had to deal with a variety of personal issues. Or perhaps the thousand other difficulties life serves up.
And it was a rough go to say the least.
But somehow, someway, all battle-scarred and weary, you were able to pull through. And start putting things back together.
You are finally seeing some light, starting to get back in the swing of things; starting to feel pretty good about yourself - and about life in general. Then, out of nowhere, you get hit again. Maybe it's a repeat of the previous challenge. Perhaps it's something altogether different.
In a flash, you're thrown back into the fire. Your world is turned upside down. You have to gear back up. Get ready to fight another battle.
And you wonder if you can.
"A constant struggle, a ceaseless battle to bring success from inhospitable surroundings, is the price of all great achievements." Orison Swett Marden
Getting up when you've been knocked down is tough. Getting up when you have been knocked down a second, third or fourth time is a whole lot tougher.
It takes a hefty dose of tenacity, resolve and mental toughness to refight a previously won battle, to fight for what was previously yours. A lot more than most are willing to give.
"It doesn't seem fair," you start thinking. "It doesn't seem right. Why do I have to go through this pain once again?"
"Why do I have to fight this battle a second time? Why is this happening all over again? Why won't these problems go away for good?
Why, why, why, why, why?
You need to forget the whys. They don't count. They don't matter. The only thing that matters at all is whether you will step up and fight.
And reclaim what is yours.
"If there were no difficulties there would be no success; if there were nothing to struggle for, there would be nothing to be achieved." Samuel Smiles
In life's desperate moments, when trouble has retaken your world, you must step up and re-stake your claim.
You must step back into the fray with all of the faith and fortitude you can muster. And rediscover the fire to refight the fight.
Then fight like your very life depends on it.
Don't give in to the fear.
Don't give in to the temptation to quit.
Don't give an inch.
Just get things going. Get moving in a positive direction. And go get your life back.
"It is impossible to win the race unless you venture to run, impossible to win the victory unless you dare to battle." Richard M. DeVos
Remember the last time you were down and just about out, when you had all but given up? Remember that helpless feeling of despair that racked your body? Remember the paralyzing fear that gripped you from head to toe?
Remember how close you were to quitting?
But somehow you fought back. You maneuvered around the minefields. You negotiated around the potholes. You took what appeared to be a hopeless situation, turned things around and ultimately prevailed.
And it felt great.
You need to recapture that spirit, rekindle that flame. Reignite the spark that got you through those tough times. And keep it close at hand.
Then, the next time trouble comes calling, do what you did before. Attack the problem. Go right at it.
Thoroughly defeat it.
And make victory yours once again.
