Power Up Passages

Breaking The Rules.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

November 14, 2010.

"Any fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it." Henry David Thoreau

Play by the rules.
Don't rock the boat.
Never upset the apple cart.
Play it close to the vest.

These are the play it safe, don't take a lot of chances rules many people live by. These rules prevent them from taking a lot of chances. They help them minimize their risks. They keep them safe and secure. Or do they?

While these rules generally keep their risk to a minimum, they also keep them in their place. And keep them from realizing their full God-given potential.

"Rules are mostly made to be broken and are too often for the lazy to hide behind." Douglas MacArthur

How about you? Do you really like playing by the so-called 'rules' all of the time? Always letting others call the shots? Always doing what you're supposed to do, when and where you're supposed to do it?

If you're supposed to wait in line or wait your turn, do you patiently wait there?
If you're supposed to do something a certain way, is that the 'way' you always do it?
Do you play by the rules - or do you shake things up every once in a while; maybe even break a few rules? Do you look for better ways to do things? Or another way to get things done?

Hey, I'm not saying there isn't a time and place for some rules, because there is. But if the rules aren't getting you where you want to go, then maybe, just maybe, you need to bend the rules, stretch the rules, and perhaps even break the rules every now and then.

"A few strong instincts and a few plain rules suffice us." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be honest, wouldn't you dearly love to break a few rules now and then? Maybe even upset the apple cart, really shake things up and get out of order - and go make something exciting happen?

How would it feel to take off the tie, loosen your collar and really kick up your heels? To let loose and really go for broke and see what happens? To rock the boat, maybe even tip it over - and start having the time of your life?

Can you imagine yourself living your dreams? Doing the things you have always wanted to do? Fulfilling your goals and aspirations? Can you see it? Can you feel it? So what's holding you back? A bunch of silly rules?

Not any more.

"We can let circumstances rule us, or we can take charge and rule our lives from within." Earl Nightingale

Here's a good rule to follow when it comes to following the rules: forget the rules. Toss them aside. You need to start making your own rules. And start following your heart.

Here are some better rules:

Do what you believe is right.
Do what you need to do.
Become the person you were born to be.

Now that's more like it.

If you need to break some rules along the way, so be it. Break them - and get on down the road. Make sure you play fair and square, and that you play with honesty and integrity at all times. But also make certain you play by your own rules - and in your own way.

Play with heart, play with passion and for goodness sakes, play it for all your worth. And you'll get the life you deserve.

The Bottom Line: Break some rules and you'll break some records.
