Power Up Passages

Now Hiring.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

October 30, 2010.

"If you don't have confidence in yourself and think that you are worth hiring... you can't expect anyone else to." Sam Donaldson

You see the following ad in the paper:

We are now hiring.

Position requires an energetic, outgoing, results oriented self starter. The applicant must be eager to learn and get better. Must possess a no excuses approach - and be willing to accept total responsibility for his or her decisions/actions. This individual must be attentive, confident and exhibit an optimistic outlook at all times. A great attitude is a plus. The ability to add value and develop rapport with the customer is a big plus. A tremendous work ethic is an absolute must. If you've got what it takes, give us a call and let's get started. Whiners, complainers and excuse makers need not apply.

Could you fill this position? Do you have what it takes to step up and wow the interviewer right from the get-go? Blow him away with your effervescent attitude? With your positive-charged energy and excitement? With your zest and zeal for living?

Could you make him hire you right on the spot? Or would you be shown the door?

"The key for us, number one, has always been hiring very smart people." Bill Gates

How hirable are you?

Are you full of life, full of fire, full of energy, excitement and enthusiasm? Or are you worn down and just plain worn out?

Are you a self starter, consistently doing what needs to be done when it needs doing? Or do you need a nudge to get going (or maybe even a good shove)?

Are you constantly looking for ways to improve all facets of your life - always open to new ideas and new approaches? Or are you pretty much set in your ways?

Are you a 'buck stops here' kind of person, ready to accept total responsibility for where you are and what you do - or do you pretty much blame just about anyone and anything for just about everything that doesn't go your way?

Are you perpetually positive and optimistic regardless of how things are going - or do you only feel right when things are going right?

Are you constantly looking to add value and enhance your relationships with others - or are you constantly looking for the easy way out?

Do you give your very best effort each and every day, regardless of how the day is going - or basically do whatever it takes to get by?

Bottom line, would you hire yourself?

"Time spent on hiring is time well spent." Robert Half

OK, how did it go? How did you fare? Feel pretty good about your answers?

If you answered yes to the first part of each question, you're in all likelihood a results oriented go-getter that's well on your way to the top. You know what you want. You know where you want to go. And you're willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. You just need to keep working - and keep getting better with each passing day.

On the other hand, if your answers are not where they need to be, that's OK. That just means there's work to be done.

"If he's got golf clubs in his truck or a camper in his driveway, I don't hire him." Lou Holtz

You must demand the very best from yourself. If you're not excited about where you're going, then change paths. Change your approach. Change your attitude. Change whatever needs changing. Then start living and loving life to the hilt.

You've got to take charge! Being a self starter is simply not negotiable. It's an absolute must. Until you master this basic requirement, youre just spinning your wheels. It all starts by getting started. That means getting started right now.

Then once you get the ball rolling, don't slow down. You need to get better every single day - and that means trying something new, something fresh, something altogether different daily. Try new ideas and new approaches. Give them a whirl. And watch your life take off.

And for goodness sakes, stop making excuses. Excuses are poison to your system, your success and your well being. Personal responsibility is - and always has been - the calling card of champions worldwide. Make it yours too.

A lot of folks really believe they are real go-getters when in fact they rarely go get much of anything at all. These people also believe they never make excuses when truth be told they make one excuse after another. And these same people also swear up and down they never complain when it's basically all they ever do. Please don't fall into this trap. Be your best each and every day.

Even if you're not presently looking for job, you still need to demand the very best from yourself. You need to make yourself hirable. Make yourself desirable. Make yourself virtually un-fire-able.

And you'll make out all right.

The Bottom Line: Make yourself the kind of person you'd love to hire.
