"Life is the sum of all your choices." Albert Camus
There's a choice on the table. A move needs to be made. And you're the one who needs to make it. So what do you do? Do you take the chance? Make the choice? Make a move? Or do you defer? Maybe even run away?
When action is required, when something has to get done, when it's make or break time, what do you do? What's your approach, your game plan, your modus operandi? Do you instinctively grab the bull by the horns? Get large and in charge and make things happen? Or do you let things happen to you?
When an important decision is required, when something has to be done, do you step forward and make the call? Do you make a decision? Make a move? Or do you slink to the sidelines? And let someone else take over.
Do you push back? Or get pushed around?
"Deliberate with caution, but act with decision." Charles Caleb Colton
Doing what needs to be done when it needs doing is rarely easy. In fact, it's anything but easy. After all, if you make the wrong call, everyone knows you're the one who screwed things up. You're the one who made the gaffe, the goof, the big time blunder. You get the blame. All of the fingers point in your direction. The fault is saddled squarely around your neck. You're the goat.
And that's not a good place to be.
Nobody likes to be the person who messed things up; to be known as the one who got things wrong. It's generally a whole lot easier to let someone else be that 'person.'
Is it any wonder that many people regularly choose to sit back and let someone else take the hit? Instead of stepping up and taking a stand, they lay back and play it safe. they stop making tough decisions. They stop making tough choices. And somewhere along the way, they stop living as well.
"Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen." Ralph Waldo Emerson
Life is about choices. There are small, seemingly insignificant choices you barely give a passing thought. And there are difficult decisions which define your life and dictate your fate. You have to make them all - and make them when they need to be made - or someone else will. That's right; if you don't step up and make a decision, others will. And you're then stuck with whatever decision they make.
WHATEVER CHOICES THEY MAKE.
Is that really the way you want to go through life?
Every decision made on your behalf, whether you make it or somebody does instead, has repercussions. Just like throwing a rock into a lake, every single decision has a ripple effect. Every decision you make or fail or refuse to make has direct and indirect consequences on your life. Every, single decision makes an impact - be it positive or negative in nature. Shouldn't you do absolutely everything in your power to insure that these decisions positively affect your life?
"Choose always the way that seems the best, however rough it may be. Custom will soon render it easy and agreeable." Pythagoras
When it comes to living your life, you need to set the tone. You need to dictate the tempo. You need to be large and in charge. That means calling the shots. Showing indecisiveness, hesitancy and weakness will only lead to indecisive, hesitant and weak decisions. Or worse yet, no decisions at all.
When it's time to make a decision, step up. Step up big. Step up strong. Look at all of the alternatives. Survey the choices. Make a decision on which direction you should choose - and then do it.
Will you always make the right choice? Of course you won't. That's just not going to happen. You're human and you're going to make mistakes; a lot of them as a matter of fact. But so what? It's not a big deal unless you make it one. So don't. When you screw things up, fix it. When you make the wrong call, correct it. When you really mess things up, don't go crawl in a hole. Just clean up the mess, get back on track and get on down the road.
Vow to keep getting better with each passing day. Keep moving forward. Keep making smarter and smarter decisions.
And your decisions will turn out all right.
The Bottom Line: The best decision is to make a decision... now.
