Power Up Passages

Playing With Fire.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

October 19, 2010.

"When you do something, you should burn yourself completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself." Shunryn Suzuki

You know what you love to do.

It's that special something you were born to do; something you love so much that you'd gladly do it for free. It makes you happy. It sets you free. When you're doing it, you're at peace. And nothing else matters all that much. It's where you want to be, where you NEED to be. Yet many times this special something is sadly relegated to the sideline.

You'd dearly love to do it every day, all day long. But you can't... or at least you think you can't. After all, you've got a job to go to. You've got a family to provide for. You've got all sorts of other things to do.

So your special something becomes something you do only when you have the time, only when you're not preoccupied with the rigors of day to day living, only when you can get around to it. After ahwile it gets shoved to the corner. It gets put on the back burner. It gets lost in the shuffle.

And that's not just sad. It's sadder than sad.

"Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not quite, the not yet, the not at all." Henry Ward Beecher

Oh sure, you still dabble with that something every now and then. Whenever time permits, when you're not snowed under with all the other things you have to do, you still fiddle around with your something. But you don't dive in. You don't commit. You don't give it your all. As a result, it becomes little more than a hobby; something you do whenever you get around to it... if you get around to it.

Your usual excuses for not pursuing your passion probably sounds something like this: "I can't make a living doing what I love to do. I can't build a business around my special something. I can't support my famiy doing what I was born to do." You say I can't so often that you probably believe it by now. So you don't.

And that special something is not all that special anymore.

How do you know you can't make a living doing what you love to do? How do you know you can't feed your family, make your rent or pay your bills doing WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO? How do you really know... if you have never really given it a shot?

"Each of us has a fire in our hearts for something. It's our goal in life to find it and keep it lit." Mary Lou Retton

Every time you could have (and should have) given your special something a special chance, you didn't. You didn't go full throttle. You didn't go wide open. You didn't let it rip. And you didn't go very far.

You didn't let it fly. You didn't make it happen. You didn't go for broke. You didn't get it done.

And now you think you can't forge a lifetime of riches around your special something. You couldn't be more wrong.

The most successful people on earth did precisely what you think can't be done. They followed their dreams. They built their lives around their special gifts. They discovered the things they were good at, the things they were born to do, and had the courage to fashion a lifetime of achievement around them.

And so can you.

Instead of using up one worthless excuse after another, why don't you toss the excuses aside, turn up the heat and really give it a go? Don't dance or dilly-dally around the flames. You need to jump in and really feel the heat. That means stoking the fire, fanning the blaze. And show some genuine passion and fire.

And go make it happen.

"Maybe it wasn't the talent the Lord gave me - maybe it was the passion." Wayne Gretzky

Just imagine yourself doing what you love to do each and every day. Can you see yourself ditching the job you hate and doing what you were born to do instead? Can you picture yourself having more money, more time with your family, more of all of the things you have always dreamed of having? Can you see it? Can you feel it? Can you do it?

Yes, you can.

The only way to start living the life you desire is to, well, start living it. Not talking about it or thinking about it or hoping someday you'll somehow manage to get there. You've done enough of that already. You just have to go get it.

Noted motivational pioneer Paul J. Meyer once said, "Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon must inevitably come to pass!" Notice he didnt say might come to pass? Or maybe come to pass either? No, he said if you can see it, want it, believe it and then do it... you will most assuredly have it.

You need to see what you want to do, be and have in your lifetime. See it in crystal clear terms. See it in rich, vibrant detail. Splash it across the silver screen of your mind. Then internalize this image deep down in your soul.

Next, you've got to want it, desperately want it more than you have ever wanted anything. Want it more than life itself. Really, really, really want it.

Then you've got to believe you can have it, do it and achieve it. Believe it from your head to your toes. Believe it with all of your might. Believe it with all of your heart and soul.

Then go get it.

You CAN live the life you desire, you CAN have the things you want, you CAN be the person you're destined to become doing the thing you love to do. Yes, you absolutely CAN. You've got to dig deep, way down deep inside. And you'll find the fire that burns within.

The Bottom Line: Don't play with fire; unleash it instead.
