"We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open." Jawaharlal Nehru
Nobody likes to get hurt. It doesn't matter whether the pain is emotional or physical in nature; you want the hurting to stop - and to stop as quickly as possible. So there's a tendency to move away from things that cause discomfort and pain. And move away as quickly as possible.
But sometimes you move too far.
When you're worried about getting hurt, there's an inclination to recoil, to close the door. And close the door tight. After all, you don't want any more heartbreak. You don't want to feel any more heartache. You just want the hurt to go away. So you shut down, trying to close yourself off from the rest of the world.
"What I have learned from life is to make the most of what you have got." Stephen Hawking
Unfortunately, when you shut down, you don't just shut out the bad, you also shut off the good as well. You shut off your ability to see the good all around you. You miss out on a lot of good things. You lose out on a lot of good times.
And you fail to make the most of what you've been given; your gifts, talents... and opportunity.
Like it or not, you're going to get hurt now and then. You're going to experience sorrow, pain and despair. And you're going to have to deal with what seems like more than your fair share of disappointment and distress as well. But does that mean you need to close yourself off from the rest of the world? That you should shut down? No, it doesn't.
"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live." Flora Whittemore
You can shut down when things go wrong. You can close out the world when trouble comes your way. You can close others out to avoid getting hurt once again.
But, in the end, who are you hurting the most?
Truth be told, you're still going to experience problems even if you somehow manage to close yourself off from the rest of the world (which isn't going to happen). So why not at least enjoy the best life has to offer as well?
Why not open yourself up to the boundless energy and excitement each day brings to the table?
Why not open yourself to the limitless opportunities that present themselves daily?
Why not open yourself up to the extraordinary beauty that is the very foundation of life?
"Greet each day with your eyes open to beauty, your mind open to change, and your heart open to love." Paula Finn
You need to open wide.
Open your eyes; open them wide, as wide as you can. And look for the good. Start seeing the best. Start envisioning the life you desire. Then start living it with purpose, passion and power.
Open your arms - open them wide - then even wider. Grab all the good you can get your arms around. And grab some more. Gobble it up. Seize opportunity by the handful.
Open your mind; the wider, the better. Be open to new ideas, new approaches, and new ways of doing just about everything you do. Instead of going through the same old motions, you need to try something fresh, something different - and see where it takes you. You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish when you regularly inject some sizzle into your daily routine.
Open your heart, open it wide. Look for ways to help others who need your assistance. Find ways to lift up those who need a helping hand. Discover ways to shower hope and love and praise on those all around you. Show others you care. And that they count. Make them feel they matter - and matter a lot.
Last but not least, you need to open your soul... and find out what you're all about. Discover what you love, what matters the most, what you were born to do, to become. Then passionately pursue it until it's yours.
Today is a great day to open up big, open up huge. Open up wide. And go live the life you deserve.
The Bottom Line: Open the door and let the world come dancing in.
