Power Up Passages

Getting Up... Even When You Can't.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

September 22, 2010.

"There is no education like adversity." Benjamin Disraeli

You've been knocked down. You're flat on your back. And you're staring straight up at a room full of problems. You feel lousy, lost and out of sorts. You're out of options, at the end of your rope. And it seems like your day is getting worse by the minute.

Welcome to the big leagues baby.

When you're chasing the big time dreams you hold in your heart, really going after the things you want, you're going to get knocked down. And sometimes you're going to get really rocked. It happens. It just does. Nothing you can do about it.

But you don't have to stay down. You can crawl out of the funk and into the light. You can pick yourself up and get back in the game. Or you can stay down for the count - and let another great day go down the drain. It's your call.

You'd better make the right one.

"You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you." Walt Disney

Getting up when you are feeling down is one of the hardest things to do on earth. After all, when you're down, you don't have a lot of positive energy. You don't feel real optimistic. And you don't feel good about yourself or your present situation.

You're just down.

But if you keep thinking about how lousy things are going, things will keep spiraling downward. If you keep worrying that things may get worse, worse is where you're headed. If you keep dwelling on what's going wrong, where are you going to find the time or energy to make things right? You're not.

And that's not good.

"In times of stress and adversity, it's always best to keep busy, to plow your anger and your energy into something quite positive." Lee Iacocca

You can learn a lot about yourself in times of trouble and despair. With your back against the wall, you find out what you're made of. You discover what you stand for. You uncover courage you never knew existed.

Courage that can overcome any obstacle you encounter. Courage that can vanquish the toughest foes you face. Courage that can propel you to heights unimagined.

Courage that can take you anywhere you have ever dreamed of going.

"You never know how a horse will pull until you hook him to a heavy load." Paul 'Bear' Bryant

It's been said that the first thing you should do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging. And start looking up. That's pretty good advice. No, it won't be easy. Getting out of a hole never is. And yes, it's a whole lot easier to stay down and feel sorry for yourself. But you've got to get up. You've got to climb out.

Even if you think you can't.

You need to get moving in the right direction. Don't dwell on what's gone wrong. Don't think about how far you've fallen. Just pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Start looking up.

And start climbing out of that hole one step at a time.

Focus on what you can do. On what you can do right this minute to make things better. Then start doing it. And keep doing it. Don't look at where you've been. Instead, focus on where you want to go. And keep climbing, reaching and moving up and up and up... until you're out of the hole.

And on your way to the top.

The Bottom Line: Don't get down. Get out. And get on down the road.
