Power Up Passages

Courage Under Fire.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

August 25, 2010.

"Always do what you are afraid to do." Ralph Waldo Emerson

It takes courage to do your best. It takes courage to be your best. It takes courage to make tough choices and difficult decisions. It takes courage to forge forward when the heat is turned up full blast.

It takes tenacity to persevere when hope is all but lost. It takes nerve, valor and daring to keep going when things aren't going your way. It takes courage and more courage to face whatever life throws your way.

Courage by the truckload.

"We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear." Martin Luther King, Jr.

Life can come at you quickly, throwing an assortment of problems in your path. Sometimes these problems knock the wind out of your sails; sometimes they knock you completely off track. And while the majority of problems almost always catch you off guard, you have to be able to quickly right whatever's wrong and get back in the game.

When you have to make tough choices, you have to make them now.

You must be able to make sound choices on the run, oftentimes amid stress and confusion. YOu must be able to rise above the din and confusion and make principled decisions. You must be able to deal with seemingly hopeless situations, hanging on even when you are losing your grip.

And that takes courage under fire.

"Courage is one step ahead of fear." Coleman Young

What if you don't think you can handle the heat; don't really believe you can hurdle the adversities you face? What if you don't think you've got what it takes? Well, think again.

You've got way more than enough to handle anything and everything life tosses your way.

That doesn't mean you're not going to get nervous when big-time decisions must be made. That doesn't mean you won't have feelings of doubt and apprehension when you have to make a tough call. That doesn't mean you'll stay cool as cucumber when the pressure starts to mount. as a matter of fact, chances are pretty good that you will feel the heat big-time. But so what?

You can handle the heat.

"True courage is like a kite; a contrary wind raises it higher." John Petit-Senn

Annie Dillard said, "You cannot test courage cautiously." Amen sister. The only way to put your courage to the test is to... put it to the test.

Hey, I know it's easy to quit when the going gets rough. I know it's easy to cave when things start to unravel. And I know it's easy to give up and toss in the towel when hope starts slipping away.

Please don't.

Rather than stop trying, you need to try a bit harder. Instead of choosing to stop working, you need to work a little better, a little smarter. And rather than stop fighting, you need to fight harder than you have ever fought before. True courage only shows itself when you're willing to give everything you've got. And give some more.

Rather than back up or back down the next time trouble comes knocking at your door, why not throw the door wide open and show some spunk, some grit, some big time backbone? And stand up to your problems. Stand up to your troubles. Stand up and show some courage - and show the world just how good you can be.

The Bottom Line: Look within and you will discover all of the courage you'll ever need.
