"Each day I look for a kernel of excitement. In the morning, I say: 'What is my exciting thing for today?' Then, I do the day." Barbara Jordan
You walk into a car dealer's showroom. Maybe you want a new car, maybe you're just looking. Before you know what's hit you, a salesman has you sitting behind the wheel of an automobile that fits you to a T. You love the car's rich interior, you're captivated by that new car smell. You're hooked.
You want that car.
The sales rep and you work out a deal on your car's trade-in value. You sign the papers, slip into the driver's seat and zoom away.
All of a sudden you start wondering if you truly got a good deal in the trade. Even though you now a have a newer, nicer car in place of your older trade-in, it still bugs you that you may not have got enough value for the trade in. You worry about the deal you made. You wonder if the dealer got the best of you.
And the new car suddenly loses a bit of its luster.
"The preciousness of every moment is emphasized with every tick of the clock. Isn't it a magnificent day today?" Bel Kaufman
It's amazing how people can get all worked up about the value of a car they're trading in yet rarely give a second thought to how they're spending the bulk of their days. Losing a few bucks on a trade-in can leave them feeling really steamed - yet wasting a day of their lives doesnt seem to faze them a bit.
Or wasting a bunch of days for that matter.
The vast majority of folks don't seem to really care about how they use or abuse their time. They just go about their business. When the day is done, they almost never sit down and assess just how good a deal they just got from the day they just lived. Each day is just another drop in the bucket as far as they are concerned.
And they couldn't be more wrong.
"Today is the only time we can possibly live." Dale Carnegie
Most of us never truly realize how valuable each and every day really is until it's too late. And that is without a doubt one of life's greatest tragedies. If we are going to live the lives we desire and deserve, it is imperative that we learn how to squeeze all of the fun, excitement and happiness we can from every single day we are privileged to live.
Every day is unique. Every day is special. Every day is a once in a lifetime day. Regardless of whether we live our days to their fullest or simply waste them away, once they're gone, they're gone for good. And along with the opportunities and possibilities they possessed. It we fail to treasure each day for the precious gift it is, we risk losing out on some of our greatest moments.
That's why it is so critically important to make the most from each day at hand, starting today.
"Ask yourself each evening: What have I contributed today? What have I learned today? What have I enjoyed today?" Lucy M. Jachera
Come on now, what's more important; getting a good deal on a used car trade-in a handful of times in your life - or making the most of each and every day? That's an easy call. And here's the best part. Unlike trying to figure out what kind of deal we got on the used car trade-in, at the end of each day we can accurately determine whether we got a good deal - or not. If we got a good deal, fantastic! We just need to keep up the great work tomorrow. And if we didn't, we can vow to use tomorrow's time a little more efficiently.
Instead of just going with whichever way the wind is blowing, why don't you begin planning how you're going to spend your days and then set out to really live them from beginning to end? And make sure you get a really good deal, striving to really squeeze each hour, minute and second for all they're worth.
This could be the day you make a difference. This could be the day that you finally achieve the goals you have set for yourself. This could be the day you have been waiting for. Or this could be just another day.
Make sure you get a super deal.
The Bottom Line: When it comes to living life, make sure you get your money's worth.
