Power Up Passages

Name It - Them Claim It.

August 13, 2010.

"A man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder." Thomas Carlyle

What do you want out of life? What are your dreams and aspirations? What do you want to achieve in your time on earth? Where do you want to go? What do you wish to accomplish?

If you're like most folks, you have wide ranging collection of goals and objectives. There are things you want to try, things you want to see, all sorts of things you want to experience firsthand. They're right there. You can see them. You can feel them. They're a part of you. But for one reason or another, you never get around to putting your goals in writing.

And your dreams remain just dreams.

"A goal properly set is halfway reached." Abraham Lincoln

If you're going to get where you want to go, you have to have goals. But goals alone are simply not enough. You've got to power up your goals by writing them down. That's right; the first step in attaining any goal is to put it down on paper. By writing it down, you crystallize the goal. You give it power. You make it come alive.

Yet very few of us take the time to put our goals on paper. As a matter of fact, most people spend more time planning their summer vacations than they spend working on their goals. And that's a mistake you simply cannot make. When it comes to making your goals a reality, you've got to name them.

Then claim them.

"The ultimate goal should be doing your best and enjoying it." Peggy Fleming

How do you go about naming your goals? What if you have never written your goals down in the past? Where do you start? Well, here are a few tips for making your job a bit easier.

What gets you going? Write it down.
What makes you happy? Write it down.
What makes you feel alive from the inside out? Write it down as well.

Anything that brings you joy must be put down on paper. Everything you want to accomplish must be written down. Keep writing until your list is full of your hopes and dreams, until you have NAMED all of the things you want to do.

"Goal begins with GO." Bill Keane

If you never write your goals down, chances are slim you'll ever achieve them. However, if you write them down and then do nothing to make them happen, you're probably not going to get very far either. There is power in the written word ONLY when you're willing to back up your words with full fledged action.

So why not back them up by pushing yourself each day?

You need to name your goals, write them down in big, bold, brilliant detail. Don't hold back, let it flow. Set the paper ablaze as your words come alive with passion and excitement. See the words, feel their meaning. Then get out there and pursue them with all of the fire and fervor you possess.

And claim them as your own.

The Bottom Line: Write it down and then go get it.
