Power Up Passages

Don't Look Back.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

June 7, 2010.

"Never look back unless you are planning to go that way." Henry David Thoreau

George Burns once said, "Look to the future, because that is where you'll spend the rest of your life." Truer words were never spoken. Yet many of us fail to head these words of wisdom.

In fact, more than a few of us do just the opposite.

Instead of looking ahead, we're constantly looking over our shoulder; at where we've been, at what we've done. Instead of moving forward, we're inextricably mired in the past; playing and replaying old mistakes over and over again. It's almost as if we're stuck in reverse... and stuck in a rut.

"Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." Satchel Paige

Trapped in the past, we close our minds and close our hearts. And ultimately close our eyes as well. We're unable to see opportunity all around us. We're unable to see the bright future beckoning on the horizon. We're unable to see what we could be and achieve.

Instead of moving forward, we keep looking at the mess we've made.

Instead of building our future, we keep reliving bad moves we've taken. Instead of looking ahead to what we can accomplish and all of the wonderful things we can achieve, we keep rehashing things we've done wrong. Like an anchor tied to our feet, our seemingly bottomless pit of mistakes drag as down - and keep us down.

The only things we see are the problems and difficulties that plague us daily. As a result, we feel powerless, helpless and weak. So we close ourselves off. And close the door on our future as well.

"Never look backwards or you'll fall down the stairs." Rudyard Kipling

When it comes to living, we need to throw the rear view mirror away. And put the past behind us once and for all. Let's face it; what's happened has happened. There's nothing that can be done about it. All of the stewing, worrying and fretting in the world isn't going to anything except make us feel lousy.

We need to turn our poor choices loose. We need to let our mistakes go. It may not be easy. But the only way we can move forward is to go forward. And leave the past behind.

Hey, we've all made mistakes we regret. We have all made lousy decisions we wish we could somehow undo. But they're done. And they're over with. We need to let them go. And get on down the road.

We need to focus on where we're going, not on where we've been.

"Always look at what you have left. Never look at what you have lost." Robert H. Schuller

The only way to get ahead is to look ahead - and then make something happen. Starting today, you need to stop looking back - and start looking forward to all of the great things you can accomplish today. And tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after that.

You've got a great life in front of you. So many fabulous moments lie ahead. So many incredible experiences are in the offing. The best part of your life is out there waiting to be discovered.

When you finally stop looking back and start looking ahead, you'll find the life you've been looking for.

And you'll never look back again.

The Bottom Line: Your future is calling. Will you answer the call?
