Power Up Passages

No Big Deal.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

April 12, 2010.

"Not being able to govern events, I govern myself." Michel de Montaigne

Far too often we make a big deal out of things that aren't. We know we shouldn't, but we do.

We turn the smallest hassles into major aggravations; we spin the tiniest irritations into full blown annoyances. And we allow all sorts of little things to get the best of us. We wish we wouldn't, but we do.

Things that should hardly matter start to matter too much. Things that shouldn't count much at all start to count way too much. Things that shouldn't bother us at all start to become big-time stumbling blocks.

And we lose our way.

"He is strong who conquers others; he who conquers himself is mighty." Lao Tzu

If you think about it, a lot of the things that aggravate us the most are the things that should matter the least. Things like getting stuck in traffic, waiting in line or the thousand other little things that drive us bonkers.

Why do we blow these little things out of proportion? Why do we let these little irritations get under our skin? Why do we allow so many little things to have so much power in our lives?

Why indeed.

Instead of seeing the big picture, we see a surplus of problems, pressures and potholes. Rather than simply blowing right through these little problems, we blow them out of proportion; making them bigger than they are.

Before we know it, we're up to our eyeballs in stuff that doesn't matter, doesn't count and doesn't get us anywhere worth going.

"We fail to see that we can control our destiny; make ourselves do whatever is possible; make ourselves become whatever we long to be." Orison Swett Marden

If you truly want to bring your dreams to life, you've got to stop making mountains out of molehills. You've got to stop letting little interruptions balloon into big time trouble. You've got to stop making big deals out of all kinds of little things.

And start focusing on the big things you want to accomplish in life. The things that will make your life better, the things that will make your life richer and rewarding; the things that matter the most to you. These are the big deals in life, the things you need to chase.

Everything else needs to get out of your way.

"You know, most of the time when something's a big deal for us, it's only become a big deal in the space between our ears." Gillian Anderson

Like it or not, life is full of little predicaments, nuisances and inconveniences. In fact, life is chock full of all kinds of little distractions that can become big if given half a chance.

DON'T give them that chance.

When a problem pops up, you've got to plow right through it... and keep on going.
When difficulty dots your path, you need to push it away... and keep on moving.
Whenever and wherever trouble lurks, you must shove it aside... and keep rolling in the direction of your dreams.

If you're going to get where you've always dreamed of going, you've got to get over the small stuff. Turn it loose, let it go. And go discover the fun, exciting, bigger-than-life stuff that's waiting out there for you. And make your life the special big-time adventure it deserves to be.

The Bottom Line: Stop majoring in minor things and you'll start making it big.
