"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing." George Bernard Shaw
None of us are perfect. In fact, not even one of us comes close. We have numerous flaws and weaknesses. We are beset with personal faults and shortcomings. As a matter of fact, we have deficiencies and defects all over the place. Even though we were created by a perfect God, we are imperfect. And we fall short on a daily basis.
Some of us fall briefly. Some of us fall for much longer periods of time. Some of us fall lightly. Some of us fall much harder. But make no mistake about it, we all fall. We all falter and fail. We all encounter despair and heartache in our lives. Yet, regardless of how far we have fallen or how low we have sunk, we can all reach up and grab redemption.
And make it ours.
"When you realize you've made a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow while it's still warm." Dan Heist
In life's trying moments, when we are forced to make important decisions under fire, we oftentimes make the wrong choices, the wrong judgments, and the wrong moves. Sometimes we make amends - and make things better. Sometimes we let it slide - and make matters worse.
Like it or not, we're going to make mistakes we wished we wouldn't have made. We're going to make decisions we wish we could get back. And we're going to experience low points from our gaffes and blunders that test our mettle, our character and our faith. And unfortunately, we pay the price for our incorrect choices.
But does that necessarily mean we have to live with erroneous choices forever? Of course it doesn't.
"The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything." Edward Phelps
After the mistakes have been made and the missteps taken, after we have failed to make the right decisions and the right moves, we eventually reach a crossroads in our lives; a place where we need to come clean. A point where we need to acknowledge our shortcomings and frailties; where we must admit that we have made mistakes. And then vow to do better, be better and get better. And forcefully move our lives in the right direction.
There is no shame in making mistakes. We all make them. And despite our best efforts, we will continue to make them. We all have shortcomings, we all have frailties and as a result, we all make mistakes. Making mistakes is just part of living. The key is to accept our mistakes, learn from them and work to get better.
When you make a mistake, don't run for cover. Accept responsibility for what went wrong - and then make it right. When a decision you made goes sour, don't cower in the corner. Figure out what went wrong - and then fix it. When you make a bad choice, don't hide and hope it goes away. Find a way to make it better - and then make it happen.
"Mistakes are the portals of discovery." James Joyce
Even if you've spent a lifetime mired in mistakes and mediocrity, you can reclaim your dignity and restore your honor by standing up to your past mistakes. When mistakes happen, don't stew about them. Don't worry about them. Don't lose sleep over them. And for goodness sakes, don't stay stuck in the past, constantly mulling over all of the things that have gone wrong. Just face them, fix them - and then forget them.
Don't run away from them. Don't beat yourself up over them. Don't allow what happened long ago get in your way. Simply admit you made them, accept them for what they are (nothing but a mistake) and vow to never repeat them. And get on down the road.
Always remember that it's never too late to redeem yourself. It's never too late to recapture lost opportunities. It's never too late to rekindle the magic of life itself.
Focus on what you can do right - right now. Then do it. And make something great happen today.
The Bottom Line: Never let a mistake slow you down.
