Power Up Passages

Never Compromise What's Right.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

March 1, 2010.

"Principles should never be compromised." Andrew Carnegie

We live in a world where taking a stand has seemingly taken a back seat to just getting along. After all, digging in and standing your ground seems so rigid, so inflexible, so unbending. And besides, we all want to get along, don't we? And to get along we need to go along.

So we seek the middle ground. We meet others halfway. We compromise.

In order to avoid disputes, we regularly give in when we would prefer to keep pressing forward. In an effort to keep the peace, we frequently concede even when we're not convinced we should. In order to fit in with the crowd, we habitually yield to their wishes even though we know we shouldn't.

And before we know it, compromising has become a way of life.

"Be flexible, but stick to your principles." Eleanor Roosevelt

Some people are willing to go to war over just about anything. It's almost as if they're just itching for a fight. Any perceived slight, any hint of a disagreement or difference of opinion can send these folks into a tizzy. Always ready to rumble at the drop of a hat, compromise is not in their vocabulary.

Please, please don't be one of these people.

Compromising can actually be the best course of action on many occasions. Let's face it; digging your heels in over every little thing doesn't accomplish anything except get you mad and upset. By sprinkling in a little give and take here and there, especially when it comes to insignificant issues, your life can become a whole lot easier... and a heck of lot less stressful.

But let's be clear here. There are some things that must NEVER be compromised.

"The opposite of compromise is character." Frederick Douglass

When it comes to your core beliefs, those etched-in-stone principles that define who you are and what you're all about, you must stand firm. These bedrock beliefs must never be compromised. EVER! Even if you ruffle a few feathers, even if you upset the apple cart, even if it pits you against the rest of the crowd, you must stand your ground.

If you compromise your principles, even a little bit, you compromise yourself.

When it comes to your beliefs, you must never waver, never waffle and never give in. These core values make you who you are; they are at your very heart and soul. And they must be protected at all costs. Even when giving in seems like an easy option, even when you just want to avoid trouble, even when you want to get the disagreement over and done with, you must stand up... and stand rock solid strong.

And remain resolute in your beliefs.

"It is the weak man who urges compromise, never the strong man." Elbert Hubbard

Most things aren't worth fighting about. But some things are. So you need to choose your battles carefully. Don't waste your time scuffling over trivial matters. Don't squander your energy bickering about itty bitty things. Go ahead and give a little and get on down the road.

But when your principles come into play, it's time to draw a line in the sand. And refuse to compromise one inch.

You've got to stay true to your principles. You've got to fight for what you believe is right. And fight for all you're worth.

The Bottom Line: Do the right thing - and you'll never go wrong.
