Power Up Passages

Stop Wasting My Time.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

February 22, 2010.

"Those who make the worse use of their time are the first to complain of its shortness." Jean de La Bruyère

Most of us really hate it when others waste our time. When we're forced to wait in line, we tend to get a little irritated. When we're placed on hold, we can become a little edgy. And when we have to cool our heels, even for a few minutes, we can become more than a little aggravated. After all, it's our time - and it's valuable. And we don't want someone else wasting it.

Yet, for some unexplained reason, we seem to have no problem wasting it ourselves. We spend hours on end sitting in front of the TV, staring away in a zombie-like trance. Then there are the countless hours we spend on the internet or yakking on the telephone virtually every day. When you toss in all of the other nonproductive pursuits that routinely occupy our time, the numbers really start to add up.

"We must use time as a tool, not as a couch." John F. Kennedy

Now many of you will quickly counter with, "It's my time and I will do whatever I want with it. I need some down time. I need some take it easy time. I need some 'me' time." And you're absolutely right; it is your time, you can use it in any way you choose. And yes, we all need to some time to relax and unwind every once and a while.

But you also need to be honest with yourself here. When it's all said and done, are you using your time wisely - or frittering it away? Are your days filled with productive action that moves you closer and closer to living the life you have always dreamed of living - or does that life seem light years away?

If what you're presently doing isn't getting it done, do you really want to keep on doing what you're doing? If you're not making the progress you desire, if you're not getting where you truly want to go, then maybe you need to change the way you utilize your time. And start using it more wisely.

Far too many people unknowingly throw their lives away; one day, one hour and one minute at a time. Instead of making good use of their time, they waste it. Instead of making their days count for something special, they squander them. Instead of using their time judiciously, they allow one day after another to senselessly slip away. They never realize that once a day is gone, it's gone for good. There's no getting it back.

"You cannot kill time without injuring eternity." Henry David Thoreau

Each day provides us a fleeting twenty four hour window to make something happen, a quick snapshot in time we can use to make our lives richer and more rewarding.

Time we can use to expand our knowledge. Time we can use to discover new horizons and explore uncharted territory. Time we can use to make history.

Or time we can simply use up.

Each day is filled with unlimited promise. Each day holds remarkable power. Each day can bring us immeasurably closer to the lives we long to live. Yet many of us regularly allow one day after another needlessly slip away. We make little effort to get better. We show little inclination to improve. We while away the hours not doing much of anything at all.

And we wonder why we're not where we want to be.

"Time is your treasure." J. M. Colter

Today can be the start of something great. It can be the day you start a new venture. It can be the day you make a fresh start. It can be the day you start turning your life around and start chasing your dreams. Or it can be just another day. You and you alone get to make that call.

So here's an idea. Beginning today, why don't you start emphatically embracing each day with a renewed sense of focus and purpose? Instead of wasting one more minute, I want you to grab each day with gusto. I want you to throw your entire heart and soul into everything you do. I want you to make the most of life.

It's time to blaze new trails. It's time to pursue your dreams. It's time to squeeze every last ounce of excitement, fun and fulfillment you can out of each and every day. And go make today something truly special.

Then and only then will you discover the happiness you deserve.

The Bottom Line: Time is your most cherished asset. Treat it accordingly.
