Power Up Passages

Put On Your Running Shoes.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

February 5, 2010.

Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must move faster than the lion or it will not survive. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must move faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter if you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be moving.

How did you greet the day this morning? Did you jump in with both feet, ready to blaze a trail of discovery and achievement? Or was your start a little less ambitious? Did you hit the ground running, barely able to contain your excitement and enthusiasm? Or did you sort of stumble out of bed in a half dazed fashion? Did you start the day all keyed up and raring to go; eagerly anticipating what the day had in store for you? Or did your day begin a little less auspiciously?

Just like the gazelle and the lion, how we start the day in large measure determines the day we get to live. If we hit the ground running - I mean really ready to put our best to the test - we set the stage for a positive charged day. On the other hand, if we choose to start out at a snail's pace, we're forced to play catch up for the rest of the day.

"I have my own rule, and that is that every day I run faster, and try harder." Wilson Kipketer

Look, I know some of you are slow starters. And that's OK, just as long as you get out of low gear pretty quickly and get cranking. The day isn't going to wait on you. Things are going to happen with or without you. Opportunity is going to knock regardless of whether you're ready to open the door. If you're not ready to pull the trigger when it's time to make something happen, someone else will.

You need to put on your running shoes first thing in the morning and get moving. And don't just run in place; you need to start making tracks on making your life all it could be and should be. Instead of running away or running for cover when things get tough, you need to reach deep inside and show the world what you're capable of accomplishing. You need to find something you truly enjoy and then get busy forging a lifetime of achievement around it.

"I always loved running. It was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs." Jesse Owens

When you start the day running, you gain a considerable advantage over the vast majority. As they're hitting the snooze button one last time, you're already moving full steam ahead. While they're bumbling and stumbling out of bed, you're uncovering dozens of exciting new opportunities. And while they're still sleepwalking around, all groggy and bleary-eyed, you're well on your way to a super sensational day.

By the time they finally get their act together, you've left them in the dust.

Each day you get to choose how you use or abuse your time. You can hit the ground running and make something happen - or you can creep along and take whatever happens your way. You can choose to make the most of each and every moment - or you can fritter most of the day away.

You can create a wave of positive charged energy and ride it all day long. You can generate a surge of unstoppable momentum that moves you in the direction of your dreams. You can produce a turbocharged current of excitement and enthusiasm that powers you through any problems you face.

Or you can go wading in the kiddies' pool.

"The starting line of the New York City marathon is kind of a giant time bomb behind you about to go off." Bill Rodgers

When the alarm clock sounds the start of a new day, you need to jump out of bed like your hair is on fire. And explode into the day. Don't think about how tired you feel. Don't roll over and catch a few more winks. Don't lay there staring at the ceiling.

Go make something happen!

You need to put on your running shoes. Lace them up good and tight. Then get out there and start uncovering opportunities others haven't noticed. Start accomplishing things others haven't considered. And start making the most of each and every day, living each moment with all of the purpose and passion you can muster.

Before you know it, you'll be running circles around the rest of the crowd.

The Bottom Line: Begin each day with a running start. Then pick up the pace.
