Power Up Passages

Looks Can Be Deceiving.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

January 10, 2010.

"A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be." Albert Einstein

Looks like you're not going to make it.
Looks like you're going to come up short.
Looks like you don't have what it takes.
Looks like you've got no chance.

If you're like the majority of us, you have heard these statements a few too many times in your life. Maybe these observations have been made by your friends or family members. Or maybe these comments have come from colleagues and co-workers. Perhaps you have even uttered them to yourself on occasion.

Thankfully, things don't always turn out the way they look.

Now don't get me wrong, life can sure look pretty tough on occasion; especially when you're struggling, when you're hurting, when you're doing all you can to barely squeak by. When you're constantly putting out fires and fighting to keep your head above water, it can feel like the world is nothing but a huge truck load of problems.

There's no doubt about it; when you're up to your armpits in trouble, life rarely looks good.

"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Wayne Dyer

We have all faced discouraging chapters in our lives. Troubling moments when our best laid plans appear irretrievably lost. Difficult times when our chances of success look bleaker than bleak. Dispiriting periods when our hopes and dreams look hopelessly impossible.

We have all felt that pain in our hearts when it looks like the odds are against us. We have all experienced that lump in our throats when it looks like losing is a foregone conclusion. We know how it hurts when it looks like we're not going to make it.

But if we're going to rise above our problems and move in the direction of our dreams, we've got to look past the pain and difficulties that surround us; and look for something better, something brighter shining out in the distance.

Many times what appears to be a certainty is anything but certain. Sure, it may look like you're going to come up short. It may look like you're not going to make it. It may look like there is no way out. But does the mere 'look' of things mean you should pack it in and give up? No way!

"A lot of times people look at the negative side of what they feel they can't do. I always look on the positive side of what I can do." Chuck Norris

Just because something looks bad initially doesn't mean it will turn out badly. Many people routinely turn the most difficult of situations around and emerge victorious on the other end.

Just because something looks hopeless at the beginning doesn't automatically make it a hopeless pursuit. Many individuals have turned seemingly hopeless situations into glorious triumph through persistence and a staunch refusal to quit or give in.

Just because things look dire at the beginning doesn't necessarily portend a disastrous finish. History is replete with stories of winners who battled through what appeared to be impossible odds and ultimately came out on top.

If you ask me, it sure looks like winning has a lot to do with the way you look at things - and not with the way things look.

"The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done." Arnold Palmer

When it comes to winning and losing in life, how things look doesn't matter all that much; it's how you look at things. You can choose to look at life through a negative prism, where you see defeat and despair, where you see heartache and sadness. Or you can choose to view life from a much more positive perspective; where you see abundance, opportunity, prosperity and richness.

Which approach sounds better to you? I thought so.

I encourage you to look at where you want to go, what you want to accomplish; what you want to achieve today, tomorrow, this week, and this month. You need to picture each and every objective you want to attain - and see them in really BIG, BOLD and EXCITING terms.

But don't just sit there dreaming about them, you need to go get them!

You need to start enjoying the abundance of good that surrounds you. You need to start savoring the wonders of life all around you. If things do not look good at first glance, then look again. And keep looking until you find the life you seek. Then start living life for all it's worth. When you finally discover the beauty life holds for you and your loved ones, your life will start looking bigger, brighter and better than you ever thought possible. Best of all, you'll start having the time of your life

The Bottom Line: When it comes to living, what you see is what you get.
