"Flowers grow out of darker moments." Corita Kent
We all come down with a case of the blahs every now and then. Try as we might to avoid the blues, they still pop up from time to time. And when they show up, they can dampen on our spirits. They can darken the brightest day. They can make us feel just plain lousy.
Instead of seeing the sunshine, we feel overwhelmed with darkness and despair. Instead of feeling positive and optimistic, we feel a sense of doom and gloom. Instead of enjoying the best life has to offer, we feel buried under an avalanche of dejection, depression and despair.
And we need a lift in the worst possible way.
"Some days there won't be a song in your heart. Sing anyway." Emory Austin
When you hit bottom (or at least when it feels like it), there is really only one way to go. And that way is up. However, getting up when you're feeling down is by no means an easy task. After all, you're feeling down. You're feeling sad. You're feeling about as low as you can go. But if you can look up, you can get up.
The best way to elevate your spirits when you need a lift is to focus on something that gets you going - and keeps you going. By focusing on that special something, two things occur. Number one, you take your mind off of your present condition. You stop thinking about how low you have sunk or how poorly things have become. And even more importantly, you move yourself into a better mental state, where you can start moving yourself into a much more positive, productive, proactive direction.
"Don't give in! Make your own trail. Don't moan. Don't complain. Think positively." Katharine Hepburn
By thinking better, you start doing better. When you start doing better, you start feeling better. And when you start feeling better, your life starts getting better. You create a wave of positive charged momentum that gets you moving... and moving in the right direction.
By lifting yourself up, you're no longer at the bottom of the heap. You're no longer way down in the dumps. You're no longer feeling lower than low. In fact, you start feeling a renewed sense of optimism. You experience a noticeable boost in energy. Your outlook becomes much more positive and optimistic.
Best of all, you no longer feel down.
"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step." Martin Luther King, Jr.
The next time you feel yourself slipping a bit, simply refocus your attention. Zero in on something that brings meaning and depth to your life; something that brings you up, something that makes you FEEL alive from the inside. That super special something that gives your life purpose and meaning. And then go get it.
God did not put you here to feel broken or disheartened. Nor did He put you here to feel depressed or discouraged. No, God put you here to thrive, to prosper and to make your life all it can be and more.
Instead of moping around and feeling rotten, you need to embrace life with a fiery fervor that cannot be defeated, an ardent zeal for living that cannot be stopped or even slowed down. You need to know, I mean really know deep down in your heart, that you have what it takes.
There you will find a supercharged reservoir of power that will never leave you short, a wellspring of indomitable strength that will never let you down. An eternal fountain of boundless optimism and promise that can take you anywhere you have ever dreamed of going.
You CAN overcome any obstacle you encounter. You CAN overpower any adversity you face. You CAN absolutely have anything you fervently desire... if you're willing to look inside. And give yourself a lift.
The Bottom Line: Get up when you get down and you'll get where you want to go.
