Regardless of whether you're penning a compelling piece of composition or putting your goal setting game plan in place, you've need to effectively integrate the five basic 'W's' into your work. These five important goal setting ingredients are who, what, when, where and why.

Let's start with the WHO part of the process. The only person who can set stimulating, motivating and inspiring goals for yourself is... you. The only individual who can establish the powerful, motivating and action oriented targets you need to shoot for is... you. No doubt about it, effective goal setting always begins and ends with you.

Winners want the ball at crunch time. They make firm commitments and then follow up their commitments with resolute action. These top performers readily accept the personal responsibility that comes with super achievement. They maintain control of their lives by controlling their own actions and decisions. They set ambitious goals for themselves and then set out to make these goals a reality.

Accepting personal responsibility for who you are and where you're headed puts you light years ahead of the rest of the crowd. By boldly taking on the challenges you encounter daily and moving relentlessly towards the attainment of your goals, you have the who part covered.

Next on our list is one of the most crucial components of effective goal setting. The WHAT gives specificity to the goals you are setting. Ask yourself the following questions. What do you want to achieve? What is it going to take to get where you want to go? What kind of obstacles are you likely to encounter on your trip to the top? Once you answer the 'what' portion of our goal setting recipe for success, you should then move on to the WHEN.

When should be fairly obvious, shouldn't it? After all, there's never been a better time and a better place than right now to do your best and be your best. By asking yourself the following questions, you'll get a clear indication of your readiness to make your dreams come true. When are you going to get started? When will you begin demanding the best from yourself? When will you start making your dreams come true? The correct answer, if you haven't guessed it already, is always right now.

The WHERE is always the easiest part, since we all have dreams and aspirations deep down in our hearts and souls. Just like everyone else, you know exactly where you'd like your life to take you. And you would like to get there as quickly as possible, wouldn't you? after all, you have envisioned it a thousand times over in picture perfect specificity; in details so precise it feels like you can actually reach out and touch it.

No doubt about it, the where is always there.

Last but certainly not least, the WHY of goal setting should never be understated. People do things for reasons. And so will you. Do you have a compelling 'why' in your life? Sure you do, we all do. The why is the cable that ties everything together. Why should you do your best and then strive to do even better? Why should you make today the best day you've ever experienced? Why should you set challenging, exciting, life changing goals? You know why, don't you?

Life is about accepting responsibility, taking chances and making choices. By incorporating the five 'W's' into your daily routine, your life can become the rousing success story you've always believed it would be. Who, what, when, where and why? Answer those questions and you're on your way to the top.

The Bottom Line: When you set super exciting goals - it's super exciting to go get them.
