"Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits."
Thomas Alva Edison
We all move at varying speeds. Some of us move a lot faster than others, some a lot slower. And some of us barely move at all. Since we're all put together differently, that's not all that surprising.
Some people thrive in a fast paced environment, where they're constantly moving and shaking all day long. There are others who prefer a little slower tempo, where they can take their time and not feel rushed. And, of course, there are the slow pokers you could time with a sun dial. I have seen older folks who could really pick them up and lay them down and younger people barely creeping along at a snail's pace.
Suffice it to say, we each have our own preferred pace.
"Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle."
I'll be the first to admit that patience is not my strong suit. In fact, that's probably an understatement. I like to move at a fairly brisk pace; not so fast that things spin out of control, but fast enough to keep me moving. I have been told who knows how many times that I need to slow down and be more patient. Well, that's just not my style. Now that doesn't make me right. Nor does it make me wrong either. It just makes me who I am.
I need to be me. And you need to be you.
When it comes to selecting your tempo, you need to make sure it fits your personality and style. Fast enough to get things done, but not so fast that you end up feeling flustered. It's got to be your own pace. But your pace needs to keep things moving along. If you truly want to get where you have always dreamed of going, you have to get going to get there.
"Good things happen to those who hustle."
Do you possess a definitive sense of urgency, where you're constantly pushing yourself to work a little faster, a little smarter every day? Or do you like to plod along at a slower than slow pace - and then proceed to go even slower? If you're someone who likes to move along slowly, I guess that's perfectly OK; as long as youre perfectly content with slowly getting the things you want out of life. I seriously doubt that's the case.
If you're like most of us, you would like to get the things you desire faster than you're presently getting them. In fact, probably a whole lot faster. Then here's a suggestion for you. Get moving and go get them. That's right; get shakin' and bakin' and make something happen. RIGHT NOW! Dawdling and dilly-dallying around won't get the job done. You need to put some serious muscle behind your hustle. You've got to become patiently impatient.
"Too many people go through life waiting for things to happen instead of making them happen!"
You want to be impatient when it comes to reaching your goals. After all, you want to make them happen as quickly as possible. On the other hand, you want to show some patience as well, since it does take a little time for your game plan to work. You don't want to push too hard. And you don't want to wait too long. So what's the right speed? How fast do you need to go? How do you find your own happy, healthy, productive pace; one that's a perfect fit for you?
You've got to find that fine line where you're always pushing but never too pushy. Instead of being satisfied with getting there whenever it happens, make it happen right this minute. Instead of sitting around waiting for the right time to make your move, make your move now. If you will become patiently impatient, pushing yourself to do better and be better every single day, you'll start getting the things you want out of life.
And get them sooner rather than later.
The Bottom Line: Don't wait for something to happen, make something exciting happen today.
