Power Up Passages

What's In It For Me?

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

November 29, 2008.

"Change is not merely necessary to life - IT IS LIFE."
Alvin Toffler

It seems like everyone is tuned into their favorite radio station - WII-FM these days. Of course this abbreviation stands for What's In It For Me? Before people will commit to doing anything, they generally want to know exactly what's in it for them.

This same principle holds true when it comes to making changes in our lives. Before people decide to make a change, they must first see the direct benefits they will derive from the proposed change. They too must see the WII-FM before they commit.

"Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future."
John F. Kennedy

Before lasting change can take place, the following must occur. Number one, the change must be understood. You must know what you want to change and why the change is needed. What benefits will you derive from making the change? How will your life be enhanced from this change?

Number two, the change must be important to you. Lasting change is predicated on making the changes you want to make. Changes that are made simply to appease those around you rarely succeed because your heart and soul are not committed to the change. When the change is truly important to you, you can summon forth the strength needed to make the change permanent in nature.

Finally, the change must be internalized and become a part of you.

"To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly."
Henri Bergson

What kind of changes do you want to make in your life right now? Do these changes meet the criteria outlined above? Do you understand what needs to be changed? Do you understand why you need to make these changes? Are these changes important to you?

I suggest you write down the changes that you want to make. These changes should encompass all facets of your life. They can be family oriented changes, spiritual changes, financial changes or any other changes you want to make. Then I would like for you to write down in meticulous detail what good will come as a result of making each and every change you have listed.

Once you have completed a list of the benefits that will accompany each change, I would like you to make another list. This list will focus on how not making the change will adversely affect your life, your family, your finances and your future. Again, you should write down in painstaking detail what kind of bad things will result in the event you fail to implement the needed changes.

Once you have completed the exercise, you should carefully review the two lists. These lists will in all likelihood paint totally different pictures of your future and will vividly illustrate why it is so critically important to make any and all changes when they are needed.

"The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking."
Albert Einstein

Delaying, putting off or just plain refusing to make the needed changes will, without a doubt, substantially impair your future and immeasurably diminish your enjoyment of life. Why in the world would you purposely subject you and your loved ones to this unnecessary pain and suffering?

So what's it going to be? Are you going to keep on doing same old boring rigmarole that's getting you nowhere - or are you ready to change things around and start moving your life in the right direction? Why not decide to change for the right reasons, make those needed changes right now and then keep the change for the rest of your life?

What's in it for you? Everything you've always wanted... and more.

The Bottom Line: In order to change what you're getting, you've got to change what you're doing.
