Power Up Passages

Straight From The Heart.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

October 30, 2008.

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart."
Helen Keller

How many times have you wanted to do something, I mean REALLY wanted to do something, but just didn't do it? Something that got you going, something that made you feel alive, something that stoked the fires burning within; that kind of something.

You really, really, really wanted to do it. But you just never got around to doing it.

So why didn't you do it? Why didn't you follow your heart and get out there and really go for it with everything you've got? More likely than not, you stopped listening to your heart. And started listening to what others had to say.

Maybe you were told that your plans were too risky. Maybe you were advised that your ideas were too crazy or just too kooky. Maybe you were told you were not good enough or smart enough to pull it off. Maybe the people giving you advice were trying to keep you from getting hurt. And maybe they simply didn't want you to get ahead.

In any event, you listened to what they had to say... and you lost.

"Everything in life responds to the song of the heart."
Ernest Holmes

You know how the story goes. There you are, all set to rock and roll, ready to do something that you're all worked up about, when suddenly BOOM, someone comes along and knocks the wind out of your sails. Someone tells you that you shouldn't do it - and you don't. Even though you want to do it, you need to do it, you allow someone else to sap your fire and steal your thunder. Rather than follow your instincts and make that 'something' happen, you foolishly listen to someone else and decide to do nothing.

Later on, when you're finally alone with your thoughts, you look back. Without the chatter and blather clouding your senses and clogging your mind, you suddenly grasp what has happened. Like a hard slap in the face, you realize you allowed others to shape your future, to dictate your actions. Instead of listening to your heart and just going for it, you allowed opportunity to needlessly slip away. As regret and sorrow begins to set in, you silently wish you would have just done what you wanted to do in the first place.

"Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you'll be criticized anyway."
Eleanor Roosevelt

Chances are pretty good that you've felt those same feelings, walked in those same shoes. And now live with those same regrets. In fact, I doubt believe that there's one person on earth who hasn't had a number of those 'I could have, I should have, I wished I would have' moments in his or her life.

In those instances when you wanted to do something but didn't, what stopped you? What kept you from chasing that inspiration, what prevented you from pursuing that idea? What kept you from just going for it?

Were you afraid of making a mistake, scared of failing or falling short? Were you uneasy about what others may think, fearful about what others might say? Were you worried about looking silly or ridiculous or that you might make a fool of yourself? Maybe some of these, maybe all of these concerns factored into the equation. In any event, you didn't do what you really wanted to do. You didn't sing your song; you didn't dance your dance. And that something you wanted to do just went away; seemingly gone forever.

And it left you feeling empty and unfulfilled.

"Be careful what you set your heart upon for it will surely be yours."
James Baldwin

I'll grant you that making a mistake, any kind of mistake, isn't a whole lot of fun. There's not a whole lot to like about messing things up. Yet mistakes are as much a part of life as the air we breathe. No matter how hard we try to avoid them, we're going to make them. They're simply inevitable. And that's OK. Getting knocked down isn't that big of a deal. Not unless you stay down for the count.

So don't.

And while we're on the subject of don'ts, don't waste any more time worrying about making mistakes. Just get out there and make something happen and make every day count. There are so many things you want to do, so many things you want to try. And they're not going to get done unless you get busy doing them. Forget about what might happen, what might go wrong and start making your life the super special adventure it deserves to be.

I know you have something inside of you that you desperately want to do; something important, something exciting, something that could turn your life completely around. It's in there and it wants to get out. You need to just do it. And do it now.

It doesn't matter one iota what others may say, what others may think. Their votes do not count. The only thing that counts, the only thing that matters, is what your heart has to say. And it says go for it with everything you've got.

Deep inside you have a heart filled with hope, a heart that radiates cheer and optimism. This heart is ready to power you through your toughest times; ready to guide you past your roughest moments. And it's ready to take you anywhere you have ever dreamed of going.

It's time to stop listening to others - and start lsitening to your heart.

The Bottom Line: Follow your heart and you'll find a way.
