"It is a good thing to follow the First Law of Holes: if you are in one, stop digging."
Life can come at us hard, really hard on occasion. Every day we face a seemingly endless array of challenges and difficulties, most of them hurled our direction in rapid fire fashion. Sometimes we are up to the challenge - and we roll with the punches. And sometimes we're not.
And when we're not, things can go south in a hurry.
In the blink of an eye, we can find ourselves flattened by an avalanche of problems. Buried beneath the rubble, we don't know what to do; we don't know where to turn. Sometimes we don't even know which end is up anymore. And we start feeling down; sometimes a little down, sometimes all the way down. And sometimes we're about as low as low gets.
That's when we need to dig our way out of the mess.
"When solving problems; dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves."
Anthony J. D'Angelo
When confronted with what seems like insurmountable obstacles, we need to look within for the strength to persevere, the power to keep going. It's there, we just need to look. We shouldn't focus on the problems we face, we shouldn't worry about what may or may not happen. We should do just one thing - and that's look for a way out.
And then start digging for all we're worth.
We have the capacity to tunnel our way out of life's biggest of big messes. We have the power to plow a pathway right through life's most daunting difficulties. We have ability to burrow our way out of even the most hopeless of hopeless situations. As a matter of fact, we have everything it takes to make our lives all they deserve to be. It is right there, right there inside of us.
But we've got to dig deep.
"Dig within. Within is the wellspring of good; and it is always ready to bubble up, if you just dig."
By having faith in ourselves and our God given abilities - refusing to give in no matter what - we exhibit a refuse to lose attitude that cannot be beaten. No matter the number of problems we face, no matter how difficult the problems may appear, no matter the number of barriers we must overcome; we need to start digging - and keep digging - until we have dug our way out.
Far too many look at the size of their problems and quickly give up, reasoning there's no way to overcome the obstacles in their path. They never once look inside and summon the strength, resolve or determination they hold within. They just dig a deeper hole for themselves.
Please don't make this mistake.
"Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer."
Whenever life deals you a tough hand, even a particularly nasty one, you need to immediately start digging your way out of the mess. Don't look at the problems, the difficulties, the obstacles you face; instead, focus on finding a solution.
Hey, there is no shame in feeling down; we've all been there before. And there is certainly no disgrace is getting down, it's something we all experience every now and then. Like it or not, getting down in the dumps is just one of those things that happen. But staying there is another thing altogether.
The next time things go wrong, don't go with them. When you get knocked down, you need to get up, get better and get going again. Look for a way to get out of the mess you're in. And then get busy pushing your way back to the top.
The Bottom Line: By digging deep - you can dig out from under any problem you'll ever face.
