"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated."
Confucius

We've heard the expression keep it simple, yet many times our lives are anything but. In spite of our best efforts, our lives can get real complicated on occasion. And sometimes we find ourselves neck deep in problems of all sorts and sizes. Tangled up in a nervous, anxious, stressed-to-the-max mess, we want out. And we want out right now.

Why do we insist on making our lives so complicated? Why do we regularly make our lives more difficult than is really necessary? Why do we sometimes make matters a lot worse than they should be? Why, why, for goodness sakes why?

Good questions; so where are the answers?

"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."
Albert Einstein

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure anyone really knows why we complicate our lives from time to time. But we do. Then wish that we didn't. And then we do it all over again. Like it or not, many of us have a tendency to make life a lot more difficult than it could be, than it should be. And our lives are a lot less rewarding, a lot less fulfilling as a result. What we really need to do is learn to simplify our lives.

Lets face it; life can get a little stressful on occasion. Sometimes a lot more than just a little. Juggling our responsibilities while dealing with the assortment of problems we encounter daily can take quite a toll.

As the pressure mounts and the heat goes up, it's easy to lose our cool. Instead of staying calm and collected, our nerves get frayed and our self control wavers. Before we know it, our composure has left the building along with our ability to cope. Then, as if things weren't bad enough already, we dump fuel on the fire. We know we shouldn't; in fact, we wish we wouldn't. But we do so anyway, over and over again. Sometimes we're our own worst enemy.

Somebody please help us!

"Don't make the process harder than it is."
Jack Welch

Help is not just on the way, it's already here. That's right, all the help you'll ever require is right where you need it - right there inside of you. It's just up to you to use it. Instead of making things harder than they should be, why not choose to make them a good bit easier? And rather than allowing pressures and problems to build to the boiling point, why not maintain your composure - and then cool things down?

The next time things start getting difficult, instead of making things worse, why not make things better? Instead of allowing situations and circumstances to get real complicated and spin out of control, why not keep your cool and stay in control? Hey, I know it's tough to stay calm when things aren't going your way. And it's downright difficult to keep your composure when life feels like one big train wreck. But why make things even tougher on yourself by losing your cool or losing control? Isn't life plenty tough enough without you making things worse?

"As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler."
Henry David Thoreau

Like it or not, youre going to make mistakes. But so what; we all do. The last thing you need to do is precisely what most of us do and that's beat yourself up. Instead of worrying about the gaffes and goof-ups you've made, you need to shake them off and look for ways to right the ship. By refusing to make matters worse, you'll not only feel better - things will get better. And get better in a hurry.

Life is going to really test you every now and again - and I do mean really, really test you. It's going to rock you and sock you. You're going to get battered, banged and bashed around. In these make or break moments, you've got to be stronger than the moment. Instead of allowing life's problems to beat you down or break you apart, you need to look for the answers. By keeping things as simple as possible, you'll not only weather the storm, you'll also come out on top.

When things start going crazy, don't go crazy with them. When things start falling apart, don't fall with them. When things start going too fast, just remember to ease up a bit, take a deep breath and regain your balance.

And keep things as simple as possible.

Regardless of whatever adversity or hardships life tosses your direction, keep your head, stay in the moment and do what you need to do. It's absolutely amazing how much better you can do, how much you can accomplish and how much better you can feel when you're not busy complicating your life.

The Bottom Line: Keep it simple and you'll keep making progress; it's as simple as that.
