"Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless."
The sky's the limit, how many times have we heard this all-too-familiar statement? A hundred times, a thousand times; maybe even more? And while the saying may be a bit overused, it still packs a punch. All it takes is a quick glance skyward to see that the sky above us is without limit.
And so are we.
We are born without limits, constraints or restrictions. When we were small children, limitations were an unknown concept. We viewed the world through unlimited eyes, living each day with all-out exuberance, enthusiasm and excitement. Nothing seemed impossible, nothing out of reach. But as we grew up, limitations start creeping into our lives a little at a time, one right after another.
By the time we reach adulthood, we are up to our eyeballs in limitations.
"When a man has put a limit on what he will do, he has put a limit on what he can do."
Charles M. Schwab
Is it any wonder that limitations oftentimes dominate virtually facet of our lives, dictating just about everything we say, think and do? After all, we are reminded of our limitations on a daily basis. Friends and family members constantly chime in, frequently reminding us that we're not good enough, not smart enough, not this or that or the other. So do our coworkers, acquaintances and just about everyone else we meet.
Thanks a lot guys.
Sometimes we're able to ignore their negative comments. And sometimes we buy into their incessant blather hook, line and sinker. Constantly bombarded with a barrage of unhelpful input from all sides, doubt and indecision begin to seep in. After awhile, the incessant barrage takes a toll and we begin losing our confidence and self-assurance. We start believing that we can only do so much, that we can only rise so high.
And we start living a life peppered with limitations.
"Argue for your limitations and sure enough they're yours."
Seemingly overnight, our lives have somehow become one big limitation. We can no longer do anything we want to do; and just about everything worthwhile seems well beyond our reach. We want to do better - we just feel like we can't. And life's once promising luster now seems forever lost...
SNAP OUT OF IT!
God blessed us with a supercharger, capable of taking us anywhere we desire. Yet too many of us insist on poking around in low gear. We need to get the lead out and get our rears in gear. That means living life without constraint, without boundaries and without limitations.
Franklin D. Roosevelt provided a concise roadmap to success when he said, "The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today." What President Roosevelt was saying was simply this: we should purge self doubts and reservations from our systems once and for all and boldly plow right through our so-called limitations.
"Where there is an open mind, there will always be a frontier."
Charles F. Kettering
You need to open your mind to what you can do - and what you can accomplish. Thais process starts by ignoring what your critics say. After all, what others say or think about your capabilities manes zip, zilch, nada. The ONLY thing that counts is what you think - and what you do.
You need to dream big - and act even bigger.
You need to clearly picture those things you want to achieve - and then pursue them with all of your might.
You need to go for the gold - and reach for the sky.
The life you deserve is waiting. A life with no limits, no maximums and no ceilings imposed. A life with nothing to hold you back, nothing to keep you down; not even the wide open sky that beckons above.
Oh, and one more thing. The next time someone tries to remind you of your limits, just remember this: there are footprints on the moon.
The Bottom Line: Don't set limits, set records.
