"When I want your opinion I'll give it to you."
Laurence J. Peter
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Regardless of whether these opinions are right or wrong or somewhere in between, people and their opinions abound. And that's OK. Like it or not, people are going to form their own opinions on all sorts of things. Unfortunately, sometimes their opinions spill over into our lives.
Far too we become way too preoccupied with what others say and think about us. We worry and fret about what others say about us, we agonize about what they think as well. Even though their opinions are only that, sometimes their opinions negatively impact the way we see ourselves. And that's not good.
"There's always somebody saying you can't do it, and those people have to be ignored."
There are always going to be people who seemingly go out of their way to tear us down. For one reason or another or even no reason at all, these perpetually unhappy folks seem to derive great pleasure from ripping our reputations to shreds. In their eyes, were never going to be smart enough, good enough or worthy enough. Never! So they keep spewing all sorts of negative blather in our direction.
We can choose to buy into their negative nonsense, fight them tooth and nail or simply ignore them entirely. I suggest the latter - and here's why. These chronically miserable people can say whatever they like about us (and they probably will), but their opinions are only that - their opinions; worthless, empty, meaningless opinions. Who cares what these people have to say? The people who matter won't listen to them - and those who listen don't matter.
The only thing that matters is what we believe about ourselves.
"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."
When it comes to living our lives, the only opinion that counts, the only opinion that means anything at all is the one we hold within. What we believe about ourselves and our God-given abilities is the only opinion that holds any sway in the big scheme of things. Everything else is worthless clutter. Yet many of us repeatedly get all caught up in what others say and think about us; sometimes to the point that we forget who we are and what were all about.
For crying out loud, what kind of person constantly criticizes and says disparaging things about other people? Are we talking about a happy, outgoing person who brings value to everyone he or she touches? No way. How about an optimistic, enthusiastic individual who habitually sees the best in others? Not a chance. We're talking about a genuinely unhappy person. And we're going to worry about what this kind of person has to say about us?
I don't think so.
"Someone's opinion of you does not have to become your reality."
Please don't lose any sleep over the opinions others hold of you. The negative things others say and think about you mean absolutely zip, nothing, nada... unless you grant them that opportunity.
Instead, why not focus your attention on doing your best and being your best daily? Rather than concerning yourself with the opinions of those you could care less about, why not zero in on the things you want to accomplish and the actions required to make them a reality?
The moment you stop wasting precious time and energy on the petty criticisms others hurl your way, you set yourself free. Free to conceive, free to believe and free to achieve each and every goal and aspiration you hold close to your heart.
Never forget that deep down where it counts, you have what it takes to make your dreams come true. And that's not a matter of opinion.
The Bottom Line: The only opinion that counts is yours - and yours alone.
