Power Up Passages

Pushing Your Luck.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

June 19, 2008.

"I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have."
Thomas Jefferson

What kind of luck have you been having this week, this month, this year? Has it been good luck, bad luck or maybe no luck at all? If you're like most folks, it's some combination of the three. Some days you're lucky, some days you're not.

But one thing is for certain, luck has very little to do with being lucky. And a whole lot to do with how hard you work.

Some people wait around hoping and praying that Lady Luck will happen by and toss some riches their direction. Instead of making things happen and making their own luck, they sit on the sidelines hoping things will somehow work themselves out. If things go their way, they consider themselves lucky. If things take a turn for the worse, they're just unlucky. They never once realize that we make our own luck in life.

"When I work fourteen hours a day, seven days a week, I get lucky."
Dr. Armand Hammer

How about you? Do you consider yourself a lucky person by nature, or do you see yourself as someone who consistently gets dealt an unlucky hand? Do you get out there and make your own luck or do you wait for luck to come waltzing by?

Luck is not about having a pocketful of good luck charms. It's not about rabbits feet, four leaf clovers, perfectly placed horseshoes or good luck pieces you carry with you wherever you go. In fact, luck has absolutely nothing to do with all of this gobbledygook.

It has everything to do with how hard you work at attaining your goals.

"It's hard to detect good luck - it looks so much like something you've earned."
Frank A. Clark

Some of the luckiest people on earth are also some of the hardest working folks around. They push their luck everyday, striving to get better, smarter and more efficient in everything they do. They love a good challenge, love giving life their very best shot daily. And they give it.

Oh sure, they make mistakes; tons of them to be more precise. And yes, they taste defeat frequently; way more often than those who never try. Yet these winners quickly bounce back from setbacks and mistakes and get back out on the playing field and do what they do best - and that's compete.

"Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get."
Ray Kroc

When you get down to the real nitty-gritty, you make your own luck. That's right; you and you alone determine the degree of luck you enjoy in your life. Yes, it's that simple - and that complex.

Whenever you get knocked down (and you're going to get knocked down on occasion), remember to keep your eyes on the prize. Just keep your head up and keep going, keep working and keep pushing forward.

Good things happen to those who make things happen. So get busy and make something lucky happen today.

The Bottom Line: When you start doing more, you'll start having more.
