Power Up Passages

There's No Business Like Show Business.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

June 9, 2008.

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way."
John C. Maxwell

Talk is cheap. In fact, it's cheaper than cheap. People all over the place constantly blather on and on about what they're going to do. They're not actually interested in doing it mind you, but rather talking a good game instead. They chatter about how they're going to do this; they blather about how they're going to do that. Blah-blah-blah-blah.

Well, I've got news for them. Talking isn't doing.

Doing what needs to be done, when it needs doing, is the name of the game; especially if you actually want to accomplish something in lfe. All the talking in the world isn't going to get anything done, except maybe fill the room with a lot of hot air.

"Talk is cheap. Words are plentiful. Deeds are precious."
H. Ross Perot

When all is said and done, it's almost always a sure fire cinch that a lot more will be said than done. After all, chewing the fat, shooting the breeze and yakking all day are a whole lot easier than actually getting your hands dirty. You just open your mouth and start flapping your gums.

But while we're talking, nothing gets done. That's why we all need to stop spewing and start doing.

We need to shut our mouths, get focused and get the job done. But merely getting busy is not going to cut it either. Why? Because we can be busy as a bee and never accomplish anything of note.

"A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as one deed."
Henrik Ibsen

We need to make sure that when we're doing something, we're doing something worthwhile, something meaningful, something that counts. As Ernest Hemingway said, we should "never confuse movement with action."

We need to decide what we want out of life, those things we really want to accomplish. Then we need to determine what we need to do to get where we want to go. And then we need to get the show on the road.

"It is only our deeds that reveal who we are."
Carl Jung

Are you ready to make something happen? Then don't talk about what youre going to do, hoping to do or planning to do. Nor about how you're going to do it. Nobody gives a hoot. Instead, show 'em what you've got. When you get busy and get after it, you show people what you're made of and capable of accomplishing.

That means stopping all of the talking, jawboning and chitchatting. It's time to put up and shut up. You've got to be willing to do whatever it takes, whenever it needs to be done, if you truly want to achieve your goals. Focused, determined effort is how you get the job done.

When you're finally ready to give life your very best shot, you'll stop the talking and start making things happen. And when you start letting your actions speak for themselves, you'll not only show the world what you can do, you'll completely wow them as well.

The curtain is going up. It's show time!

The Bottom Line: Stop talking and start doing.
