Power Up Passages

Winning Streak.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

March 5, 2008.

"Winning isn't something that happens suddenly on the field when the whistle blows and the crowds roar. Winning is something that builds physically and mentally every day that you train and every night that you dream."
Emmitt Smith

Winning is fun. Winning is exciting. Winning is exhilarating, stimulating, invigorating. In fact, winning is almost intoxicating. Yet to a large number of people around the world the notion of winning is a foreign concept, little more than a fanciful pipedream.

Beaten back and broken down by years of negative conditioning, many people know very little about winning. Scratching and clawing to barely survive daily, sometimes scarcely eking out a living, they have all but forgotten how it feels to bask in the radiant brilliance of winning.

"Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing."
Vincent Lombardi

Now that doesn't mean that these unfortunate individuals don't want to win; far from it. Most would dearly love to reach up and grab glory, to live their lives they way they were meant to be lived. But for one reason or another, they never quite seem to reach out and grab it. Over time, they become depressed, disillusioned and downtrodden as doing without becomes their way of life. As the losing continues, they become cynical, jaded, pessimistic. After awhile, they see no way out.

These fine folks never once realize that what we see is oftentimes what we get in life... and that they're getting precisely what they constantly see. Since they see scarcity all around them, they are swathed in paucity and scarceness. And because they see little or no opportunity to make something of their lives, they remain stuck in a humdrum rut, going nowhere particularly fast.

What they really need more than anything else is to change their outlook on life.

"Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."
Muhammad Ali

Consistent winning is never an accident. Not by a long shot. As a matter of fact, winning on a consistent basis requires a heavy dose of commitment, effort and persistence. And most of all, it takes the will to succeed regardless of the difficulties encountered and setbacks endured. More often than not, winning is little more than the ability to outlast the losing.

While some will chalk up the success of those more fortunate than themselves as some sort of fluke, nothing could be further from the truth. Contrary to what many may think or say, it's no stroke of luck that the very best make it to the top of their chosen field or profession. They got there because they possess an unrelenting will to success.

And that powerful will to win burns deeply within us all.

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
Theodore Roosevelt

Winners stand out from the rest of the crowd because they are prepared to do whatever it takes, whenever and wherever needed, to get the job done. And here's the key, they do what needs to be done regardless of whether they feel like doing it or not. Not every once in a while, not whenever they get around to it, not when its convenient; but whenever and wherever they need to do it.

Winners develop a winning streak within, a tougher than tough 'do it now' attitude that separates them from everyone else. Their tenacity makes them tough enough to overpower anything thrown in their path, resilient enough to overcome any adversity they encounter. Since they are willing to give it their all, to lay everything they've got on the line each and every time out, they pave their pathway to success. And so should you.

Are you going to win each and every time out? Of course not. Nobody wins all of the time, not even the best of the best. But then again, so what? As long as you're willing to keep plugging, keep pushing, keep plowing ahead, outlasting the losing at every turn, you're going to come out on top. As an added bonus, you're going to start a little winning streak of your own. A little streak that can grow into a big one.

Best of all, winning will become a way of life.

The Bottom Line: When you develop a winning streak on the inside, you'll start enjoying a winning streak on the outside as well.
