Power Up Passages

The Cavalry Isn't Coming.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

November 19, 2007.

"Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway."
John Wayne

No one likes the feeling of being afraid; those panicky, anxious, unsettling emotions we experience each time we feel frightened or scared. Unfortunately, there are all sorts of problems that can instill these feelings of apprehension within us. Worries, illnesses, financial concerns, family woes and unexpected problems can strike when we least expect them, negatively reverberating deep down in our hearts and souls.

These upsetting issues can strike anyone and at anytime. No one, even the strongest amongst us, is untouchable; no one unaffected. Like it or not, all of us are afraid at one time or another. The manner in which we deal with these private moments of fear and uncertainty literally makes or breaks the lives we lead.

"Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway."
Robert Anthony

Showing courage in the face of danger and despair is one tough row to hoe. So tough, in fact, that most people choose to tremble and cower when trouble comes knocking upon their door. Rather than show the gumption and grit to face their fear head-on, they retreat and wait for someone or something to come along and save the day. They fail to realize that the cavalry isn't coming to the rescue.

Why do we oftentimes look to others to bail us out, especially in those moments when we're up to our eyeballs in trouble? And why do we frequently look for a miracle to save us when we've given up hope? I guess we feel we're in over our heads and theres nothing more we can do. And that's simply not the case.

"Heroes take journeys, confront dragons, and discover the treasure of their true selves."
Carol Pearson

Rather than look for the proverbial helping hand, we need to tenaciously claw our way out of trouble, trusting in the strength and determination that dwells within us. And instead of hoping for a miracle from somewhere in the distance, we need to rely on the miracle-making power God has instilled in each of us.

Many people go to their graves never once realizing that there is a magical treasure chest inside of them, a limitless reservoir of power, strength and courage that can help them rise above life's most trying of times.

"The spiritual warrior hides from nothing. We jump into the fire, we dive into the ocean. We become the sea."
Charlotte Kasl

Whenever and wherever fears strikes, just remember to look within. There, deep down in your heart and our soul, you have all the strength you'll ever need to beat and defeat any difficulty you face.

Eleanor Roosevelt eloquently described our spiritual warrior within when she said, "We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down."

Hey, it would be nice if a shining knight rode to our rescue every time things didn't go our way. And who wouldn't want to keep the cavalry on call to save the day whenever life didn't go according to plan? We need to realize that we are our own shining knight, we are our own cavalry. Whenever problems arise, big and small alike, we need to take charge and take control of our lives. The moment we do, we have the power to save the day.

The Bottom Line: Anything's possible when you believe in yourself.
