Power Up Passages

Critic's Choice.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

October 12, 2007.

"Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing."

Very few people enjoy being criticized. In fact, it is one of life's most distasteful aspects. It is our human nature to seek approval and acceptance from our friends and acquaintances, to have them lavish us with admiration and hold us in high esteem.

Who doesn't love to hear others singing their praises and lauding their efforts? Honestly, given a choice, wouldn't you much prefer appreciation and glowing admiration to stinging, cold hearted criticism? Of course you would. We all would.

"A thick skin is a gift from God."
Konrad Adenauer

It's always gratifying to know others appreciate the things that you do daily. No doubt about it, acclaim and adulation are nice. To be held in high regard by those you know and respect can be personally rewarding. But reaching out and ultimately achieving your goals can be even more satisfying.

Anytime you're out there making something happen, passionately pursuing your dreams and fulfilling your destiny, you are going to encounter certain individuals that harshly judge every move you make. Regardless of age or avocation, chances are very good that you'll have more than your fair share of critics during the course of your lifetime.

"Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain... and most fools do."
Dale Carnegie

Like it or not, your success is not going to set well with some folks. Be it petty jealousy, bitterness or resentment, there are always going to be some people you manage to rub the wrong way. For whatever reason or even no reason at all, they don't want you to succeed - it's that plain and simple.

By reaching out and achieving the resounding success you seek; you simultaneously paint a great big target on your back; a giant bull's eye every naysayer in the world will take his or her best shot at hitting. This pessimistic lot will single you out and proceed to rebuke you, denounce you and work overtime at shaking your confidence and breaking your resolve.

"The strength of criticism lies in the weakness of the thing criticized."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

You'll find that the more successful you become, the larger the target on your back grows. Before long, cheap shots and hateful potshots become just a part of the game. Please realize that these killjoys are not going anywhere - so they don't want you to go either. Their ever dispiriting, disparaging, discouraging remarks are aimed at one thing only: chipping away your self esteem and bringing you down to their level.

Trust me, there's not one naysayer in the world that can dent your armor, not one negative Nell that can bring you down UNLESS you give them that opportunity. So don't.

Ignore the critics - and chase your dreams. Disregard your detractors - and pursue your goals. Pay no heed to what the cynics say - and dedicate your life to making it everything you want it to be and more. Let those spoil sports waste their own time while you push forward and forge a lifetime of extraordinary achievement, happiness and contentment.

The Bottom Line: Forget the critics. Choose to live life your own way.
