Power Up Passages

Life Expectancy.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

October 10, 2007.

"Life is largely a matter of expectation."

While most of us wish we could perfectly script the precise manner in which our lives unfold, life generally doesn't work out that way. In fact, things rarely go exactly the way we plan them. Like it or not, life is full of twists and turns. Some are good, some not so good. But good and bad alike, learning to roll with the punches allows us to make the best of any situation we encounter.

Given the choice, who wouldn't wish for a picture perfect existence where things constantly go our way? A life without a single unforeseen problem sure sounds great, doesn't it? But let's get real. Problems are a part of life. That's just the way it is.

"High expectations are the key to everything."
Sam Walton

Hey, I'm not for one minute suggesting that we should expect bad things to happen to us. As a matter of fact, I believe every one of us should carry an air of confidence and expectation with us at all times. We should expect great things from life and from ourselves, never once yielding to doubt or disbelief.

But unexpected things constantly crop in our daily activities, frequently when we least expect them. And how we handle these unexpected issues can literally make or break the lives we ultimately lead.

"Always expect the best. Then if you have to hurdle a few tough problems, you will have generated the strength and courage to do so."
George Matthew Adams

Getting smacked with an unforeseen problem can knock the strongest amongst us for quite a loop. And making matters a little bit tougher, these unexpected problems almost always occur at the worst possible moment. But if we are ever going to accomplish the goals and aspirations we hold for ourselves deep down in our hearts and souls, we must get good at dealing with the unexpected.

You know how the story goes. One minute you're on top of the world, breezing along and having a great day, when out of the blue you get sledge hammered with one whopper of a problem. In a flash, your world is abruptly turned upside down and your great day takes a decided turn for worse. Off balance and out of kilter, you must quickly respond to the issue at hand.

"High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation."
Jack Kinder

What do you do when walloped with life's unexpected challenges? Do you back down or back away, hoping the problem will somehow take care of itself or do you quickly regroup and find a way over, around or through the difficulty presented? Do you overpower the problem with resolve and resiliency... or does the problem overpower you?

The ability to overcome life's unexpected problems, no matter how demanding or imposing they may at first appear, is the cornerstone of greatness. Each of us will face a number of tough times in our lives, defining moments that test our mettle and ultimately shape our destiny. In order to get where we have always dreamed of going, we must rise to the challenge. That means being tougher than the toughest problem we'll ever encounter.

You've got to condition yourself to expect the unexpected and then, when an unexpected problem occurs, you're ready to take the problem on without doubt or hesitation. Rather than expecting the worst; you will expect the best instead. By aggressively tackling any and all unexpected problems with an absolute expectation to win, winning is exactly what you will do.

The Bottom Line: Expect the best and you will find it. Expect success and you will prosper. Expect to win and you will triumph.
