Power Up Passages

Forgive and Forget.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

August 14, 2007.

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
Mahatma Gandhi

Forgive and forget. Three simple words. Yet these three simple words can take a lifetime of work to put into everyday practice. Without question, one of the toughest challenges we'll ever encounter is to let go of the past, to leave the unpleasant experiences we've encountered behind and get on with our lives.

Each and every one of us have harbored feelings of anger and ill will towards others at one time or another. Like it or not, it's only human. But sometimes these feelings linger for way too long, leaving us bitter and broken in the process. Instead of letting go, we cling to these feelings and relive these crippling emotions time and time again.

"Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were."
Cherie Carter-Scott

Try as we might, it's difficult to let go of the bitterness we feel about people who have wronged us, treated us unjustly or have hurt us in a variety of ways. But get over them we must if we're ever going to find true happiness in our lives.

Let's face it, if we keep hanging on to the past, refusing to let go of the anger, resentment and ill will bottled up inside, we're going to STAY stuck in the past. Then, instead of moving our lives forward, we consign ourselves to a lifetime of rehashing the bad times over and over again.

"Forgiveness is a funny thing. It warms the heart and cools the sting."
William Arthur Ward

Is that really the way you want to go through life, recalling unpleasant times and rekindling unsettling memories? Not a chance! So how do you go about letting go of the past and getting on down the road? The only way to get over the past is to, well... get over it. Completely over it. Not easy, but absolutely necessary.

After all, occasionally we feel we've been wronged and sometimes feel the need to get even. You've got to let those feelings go. All of them, right here and right now. Trying to get even only gets you one place - and that's a lot farther behind. Life is too short and your time far too valuable to waste it dwelling on the past.

"He who cannot forgive breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass."
George Herbert

Your beautiful future beckons, offering up a lifetime of good times and great adventures. They are there for the taking. Anything and everything you have ever wanted is waiting for you, ready to take you anywhere you desire. But the only way to discover just how wonderful your life can become is for you to let go of the past and put everything you've got into the present.

Forgive and forget. Three simple yet powerful words that can brighten your days and lighten your load if given half a chance. Don't you owe it to yourself to experience the best life has to offer? Whenever those around get under your skin, don't let them get the best of you. And for heaven's sake, don't give in to the temptation to get even. Simply forgive them, forget it and get on with your life - the fantastic life you deserve to live.

The Bottom Line: Learn to forgive and forget and you'll forge ahead.
