"Silence is a source of great strength."
While it's been said many times that silence is golden, actually finding a few moments of peace and quiet is becoming more challenging by the day. With all of the collective clamor and commotion we deal with daily, it's no small wonder that quiet time has become an increasingly rare commodity in our lives.
With work, family and our other obligations constantly tugging away, there never seems to be enough hours in the day. We hurry and rush all day long - day after day. We want to slow down every once in a while, in fact we NEED to slow down, but we keep going and going until the day is gone. Then we get up and do it all over again.
"Learn to be silent. Let your quiet mind listen and absorb."
From the moment we wake up in the morning until we finally drift off to sleep at night, a din of nonstop noise is in our face all over the place. Everywhere we go and everywhere we turn, there seems to be no end to the racket and ruckus going on all around us.
Just a few minutes to ourselves is all we ask, a few precious moments to unwind and recharge our batteries. Yet finding those few precious moments can prove to be a lot tougher than it should be. Afraid we'll fall behind if we let go or lighten up, we too frequently hold on to life too tightly - constantly pushing ourselves right to the brink& and sometimes beyond.
"True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment."
Every one of us, even the most hard-charging Type 'A' workaholics on earth, needs to step off the frenzied, frenetic merry-go-round every now and then. No matter how much we love the action, each of us requires some down time, some relaxing, refreshing moments we can enjoy all to ourselves.
In these peaceful, tranquil, solitary moments, with the hubbub of the outside world completely turned off, we can settle things down and totally relax, letting ourselves go. With the noise turned off and the day-to-day uproar tuned out, we are finally free to prop our feet up and chill out for a moment or two. In these soothing, serene moments of solitude, we can actually feel the stress and strain flow out of our body. With the sound turned down, even ever so briefly, we are free to recharge our batteries and reenergize our souls.
"Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose."
OK, how do we go about turning down the sound? Given that life doesn't come equipped with a volume control, how do we shut out the noise every so often? It's not easy; in fact, it can be downright challenging to set aside some quiet time throughout the day. With our ever hectic schedules hurrying us all day long, there's a tendency to keep moving for fear of falling behind.
However, if we don't tone things down and turn down the sound every once in a while, we run the risk of burning ourselves out. If you want to get the most out of your life and enjoy the trip along the way, you must get in the healthy habit of setting aside some 'down' time daily - each and every day without exception.
If you find yourself making excuses that you don't have the time to take a break or you're just way too busy to let go, you'd better watch out. A burnout is on the way! You need to take a few quiet breaks daily to revive, refresh and refocus. It's not optional. And contrary to what many believe, taking a few time outs daily will actually make the rest of your day much more effective and efficient.
You will be absolutely amazed at how much more you can get accomplished when you periodically turn down the sound throughout the day.
The Bottom Line: By turning it down, you can turn yourself on.
