Power Up Passages

Soar Loser.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

May 22, 2007.

"You're never a loser until you quit trying."
Mike Ditka

You just can't win for losing. Have you ever heard this phrase used before? I'm sure you have, but do you really buy into the notion that losing keeps you from winning in life? Let's hope not. Truth be told, losing ultimately paves the way for winning. Sounds a little bit crazy? At first blush, probably so, but let's take a closer look.

No matter how we play the game of life, be it full speed or slow idle, we're going to experience the sting of losing on occasion. In fact, some swallow that bitter pill a lot more than those around them. But make no mistake about it, there's a huge difference between losing and being a loser.

"The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win."
Roger Bannister

Let's be crystal clear here; I've never met a single person who likes to lose. Regardless of whether we're talking about relationships, work or athletic competition, nobody likes to lose; especially when you've given it everything you've got. But how you handle the losses you experience in life is much more important than any one loss you suffer along the way.

Winners see setbacks as little more than stepping stones on their way to the top, inevitable growing pains that must be endured to get where they've dreamed of going. Every time they get knocked down, they get up, get better and get going again. Most importantly, they never allow the prospect of losing keep them from putting their best to the test.

"Victory is sweetest when you've known defeat."
Malcolm Forbes

On the other hand, the fear of failing prevents the vast majority of people from ever chasing their dreams. Countless individuals are so terrified of falling short that they rarely take a chance. Instead of rolling the dice and living life at full throttle, these folks play it close to the vest, taking as few risks as possible. They never once realize that not giving life their very best shot ends up making them the biggest losers of all.

Rather than get up and get going again, they stay down... sometimes for the count. Each successive loss works to break their spirit and wilt their will to continue. Before long, they just don't fight back anymore. The life they could have and should have lived slowly fades from sight, replaced by a defeated, completely deflated feeling of resignation. They give way and finally give up. And that's the biggest loss of all.

"Victory belongs to the most persevering."

Contrary to popular belief, the most successful people on earth lose more than everyone else combined. Now don't get me wrong, these top achievers never get used to losing. NEVER! They always play to win, giving it all that they've got each and every time out. Yet they still suffer defeat every so often. But here's the key: they never allow defeat to become permanent.

To their way of thinking, losing is just a temporary situation; a short term setback they will eventually overcome. They constantly learn from their losses, always taking something valuable from every defeat they experience. The manner in which they handle the adversity they encounter allows them to bounce back from devastating losses that shatters the spirit of those less committed to succeeding.

"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."
Helen Keller

So whats it going to be? Are you going to give in or give out when you get bounced around or are you going to become a soar loser instead? Rather than allowing a loss to knock the wind out of your sails, why not choose to get up, get better and get going again?

Instead of being crushed by life's adversities, why not to choose to use every loss as a springboard of sorts; turning each defeat into a launching pad to a better, smarter, more efficient way of living? You'll discover that by improving yourself with each and every setback encountered, you'll immeasurably perk up your performance and exponentially spice up your life. Then, before you know it, you'll be soaring higher and farther than you ever imagined.

Can't win for losing? You know better than that!

The Bottom Line: Become a soar loser and you'll become a high flying winner as well.
