Power Up Passages

Waste Deep.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

December 25, 2006.

“Let him who would enjoy a good future waste none of his present.”
Roger Babson

If there is one thing most of us have become too proficient at doing, it is wasting our time. We waste time here and we waste time there; in fact, we waste time virtually everywhere. All too often we fritter away a good portion of the day, squandering precious minutes at work, home and play. We even waste time worrying and fretting over things that haven’t occurred.

When it comes to wasting our time, wasted moments quickly become hours and before long, add up into days, months and even years. Before we know it, a goodly portion of our lives have literally flashed in front of our eyes, lost forever.

“Short as life is, we make it still shorter by the careless waste of time.”
Victor Hugo

When it’s all said and done, too many of us leave a long list of unfinished business. Many of the things we wanted to do remain in the distance, undone. Many of our fondest dreams remain frozen in time, unfulfilled. And many of our aspirations, those cherished goals and objectives we desperately wanted to accomplish, remain incomplete. Yet many never once realize that they are wasting their lives away.

What we need more than anything else is to practice a little waste management in our lives, finding ways to squeeze more living from every twenty four hours we are granted. But first things first; most of us need to come to grips with the fact that we are waist deep in waste. And wasting time is the biggest waste of all.

“We say we waste time, but that is impossible. We waste ourselves.”
Alice Bloch

Each day is a precious, irreplaceable gift from God. Once today is gone, it is gone forever. While we may fondly recall good times and memorable moments of days gone by, we can never relive them again. Not even for a minute. They are gone. And we never know how many days we are granted. Sooner or later, one of these days will be the last of our days on earth. The only time that really matters is the time at hand. So doesn’t it make sense to live each day as if it were our last?

Understanding that time is our most valuable asset is the first step in getting more out of the time you have been given. The manner in which we use our time determines how far we go and how high we fly during the hours of our days and the course of our lives. Each minute of every hour of every day counts. Spending our time unwisely, futilely throwing it away in frivolous pursuits or unproductive activity (or inactivity) gets us no closer to living the lives we desire — and deserve.

“It has been my observation that most people get ahead during the time that others waste.”
Henry Ford

Getting where we want to go is not as difficult as most of us make it out to be. Accomplishing our goals has a lot more to do with getting started and efficiently using our time than it has to do with talent, ability or luck. Too many good people spend too much time not doing what they need to do while piling up a mountain high load of excuses along the way. They find all sorts of reasons why they don’t have this and didn’t do that; yet rarely find the time to knuckle down and get the job done.

From this moment on, why not focus your time and your energy on making the day at hand the best day of your life? Instead of wasting time, why not look for ways to do things better and faster than ever before? But more than anything else, why not make a commitment to start doing things when they need to be done rather than setting them aside or putting them off?

Want to get time on your side? Then be someone who uses time wisely — and you’ll create more magic, enjoy more excitement and experience more joy than you ever believed possible. And best of all, you’ll stop wasting your life away.

The Bottom Line: Why waste another moment when you can make it count for something truly special right now?
