Power Up Passages

Early Bird Special.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

December 4, 2006.

”Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.”
Benjamin Franklin

How many times have we heard the well-worn expression ‘better late than never’? More than a handful, that’s for sure. But when do we usually hear it — and from whom? Generally we hear the phrase from those individuals who have waited and waited to do something that needs to be done and we invariably hear it made at the very last minute.

Instead of getting the things that need doing done; too many folks put off and postpone their lives away. Rather than get busy getting things done, they dawdle and dilly dally daily. While the movers and shakers are out there making things happen, these procrastinators regularly place just about everything important in their lives on the back burner until the flame goes out. And then they wonder why life has dealt them such a pitiful hand.

”The early bird gets the worm.”

Now I’ll grant you that late is certainly better than never, but late is never as good as getting it done as early as possible. Putting things off accomplishes only one thing — and that’s pushing the procrastinator further and further behind the eight ball.

So why do we put off many of the things we know we need to do? While the reasons (or should we say “excuses”?) vary from person to person, invariably the common denominator lies in the ‘getting started’ part of the equation. Sometimes it seems as though the most difficult task known to mankind is getting started in the first place.

”Start early and keep raising the bar throughout the day.”
Bruce Jenner

Let’s face it, things just don’t get done unless someone is willing to do them. That’s just the way it is. And while we all have those tasks and responsibilities that we would prefer not to deal with, deal with them we must if we are going to take our lives to the next level and make the most of the life we’ve been given.

The most successful people on earth got there by getting things done and getting them done as quickly as possible. And that certainly includes the assorted odds and ends tasks they would prefer not to do. They realize that the sooner in the day they complete the tasks that need to be done, the sooner they free up themselves and their creative genius to make a real difference in the world in which they live.

”Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”
Carl Bard

OK, so how about you? Are you pushing the envelope of personal development by consistently plowing through those ‘need to be done’ type of tasks daily? Or are you mired in a down in the dumps funk where you’re allowing those tasks to stack up until you’re completely covered up?

Getting in the healthy habit of getting started and then working until the job is finished is not an easy endeavor. It takes work, commitment and perseverance — and a little perspiration too. But don’t sweat it; you’ve got more than enough of those qualities to get the job done.

The sooner you get busy getting things done; including those things that you have repeatedly put off in the past, the sooner you can enjoy the best life has to offer. And believe you me; it has plenty to offer. Just get started, keep plugging away and keep working your plan daily. Don’t put things off, just vow to get them done from this point forward. Oh, and one more thing. You need to get started as soon as possible. The earlier, the better.

The Bottom Line: When it comes to enjoying the life you deserve to live, sooner always beats later.
