Power Up Passages

Start To Finish.

Brought to you by

November 27, 2006.

”If the word quit is part of your vocabulary, then the word finish is likely not.”
B.G. Jett

Life is not nearly as complicated as we make it on occasion. A bit difficult and challenging every so often? Yes. There’s no doubt that each day presents us a new set of challenges that test our resolve and tax our determination. Sometimes we rise to the occasion and tackle the problems presented and sometimes we don’t — and the problems tackle us. But is life really all that complicated? No way.

The manner in which you go about your daily activities dictates the measure of success you ultimately enjoy. Win or lose, it’s up to you. If you habitually cringe or cower when problems come calling, a lifetime of misery and regrets may well haunt your days on earth. On the other hand, if you condition yourself to see problems as nothing more than opportunities waiting to happen, there’s little you cannot accomplish.

”He who begins and does not finish loves their pains.”

Make no mistake about it, problems are every bit a part of living as eating and breathing. Like it or not, nobody escapes problems. Nobody, not even the richest, smartest or most successful people amongst us, is able to avoid problems on a daily basis. If success in life is about any one thing, it’s about the human spirit’s ability to overcome life’s tribulations.

There are no problems too tall or difficulties too tough for the individual willing to tough it out and take on whatever life offers up. Alternatively, there are no problems too small or inconsequential for the person unwilling to rise above the difficulties encountered.

”There is nothing so fatal to character as half finished tasks.”
David Lloyd George

Big, small or perhaps somewhere in between, problems come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. And though problems can be as imposing as the highest mountain or small as the tiniest mole hill, the ability to fly over the highest hurdle or clear the smallest stumbling block is one and the same. Developing the capacity to overpower any and all problems from start… to finish is the key. Unfortunately, sometimes that’s the biggest problem of all.

Rather than attack problems head on, giving them no chance to garner any power over us, we too often give in to the temptation to give up. Instead of staying on the offensive, banging away at the problem until we pound it to pieces, we frequently backpedal away from the problem at hand. At the very moment when courage and daring is needed the most, fear and hesitation takes the upper hand and takes over.

”What is not started today is never finished tomorrow.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Why do we so often back down and back away in these crucial life changing moments, ceding control of our lives to outside pressures and circumstances? In a word — CONDITIONING. Many of us have conditioned ourselves to avoid dealing with problems. In doing so, we have created even more problems for ourselves.

The only way we can ever live out our most cherished dreams is by reconditioning ourselves for success. And that means facing our problems defeating them before they have a chance to defeat us. It’s that simple. Maybe not easy, but it is simple.

”The way to push things through to a finish effectively must be learned.”
William Frederick Book

You need to commit right now to take on life’s problems, regardless of size, right from the get-go. Challenge yourself to deal with problems from start to finish. It takes some work to recondition yourself, but you can do it. And what’s the reward for going through this reconditioning process? How about living the life you deserve, enjoying each day from start to finish?

The next time a problem knocks at your door, blow through the door with all the fervor and enthusiasm you can muster. Seize the chance to overpower the problem and seize control of your life. Pound away at the problem right from the start and keep pounding, pounding and pounding some more until you complete the job. You CAN beat life's problems... from start to finish.

The Bottom Line: When problems arise, overpower them right from the start — and then finish the job.
