It is a rough road that leads to the heights of greatness.
As you make your way down lifes winding road, youll encounter an array of defining moments where choices must be made and decisions rendered, oftentimes in the blink of an eye. Sometimes you make the right choice, sometimes the wrong one.
The key to making the most of the life you lead though is to make these choices when they must be made. Right then, right there without hesitation or doubt. Making no decision whatsoever is never the right move. NEVER! By sticking your head in the sand or running for cover whenever confronted with these moments of truth, you consign yourself to a lifetime of regrets forever left wondering what might have been.
Don't learn to do, but learn in doing. Let your falls not be on a prepared ground, but let them be bona fide falls in the rough and tumble of the world.
Oh sure, you may feel uncertainty, unsure of the right move at that very moment. You may feel doubts creeping in while silently asking yourself, What if I make a mistake or make the wrong choice? But you must push through those unsettling feelings of doubt and indecision and go with your gut feeling. Thats right, GO! When it counts and where it counts youve got to get up and go and make it count. Dont wait or hesitate, just do what you believe right then is the right thing to do and let the chips fall where they may.
Its a whole lot easier dealing with a decision made right or wrong than to deal with a life of doing without. Youll discover that virtually each and every mistake youll ever make can be corrected. You simply get up, get better and get going again. However, missing opportunities because you failed or refused to make tough decisions will ensure only one thing for certain a second rate lifestyle filled with second place finishes. Dont you deserve a better lot in life?
The way of the pioneer is always rough.
Harvey S. Firestone
For starters, quit worrying yourself sick over making mistakes. Youre going to make them; but then again, so what? Join the club a very prestigious club as a matter of fact. It shouldnt surprise you that lifes most successful people, the real movers and shakers that make things happen each and every day, make the most mistakes as well. Thats right; the very best have literally failed their way to the top.
The real players are renowned for making snap decisions and going with their gut feelings. They fervently believe that it is far better to have rolled the dice and come up short than to never given life their very best shot. And so should you.
If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been.
Robert H. Schuller
And please stop beating yourself up so much. So what if you make mistakes? You're going to make them, so ahead and make them by the dozens. After all, failure is never final unless you give up or give in and thats not going to happen anymore. And please, youve got to stop being your own worst critic, needlessly beating yourself up over a mistake made or opportunity lost.
If youre like most of us, you have been a bit too harsh on yourself a few too many times. Many of us are way too good at being way too rough on ourselves. For goodness sakes, lifes challenges are plenty tough enough without pulling the rug out from under ourselves, wouldnt you agree? Why not lighten up a little? Maybe even lighten up a lot.
First and foremost, focus on doing your best. Believe you me; your best is plenty good enough. Secondly, youve got to believe in yourself and your God given abilities. You have more untapped talent than youll ever need. Yes, you do! And finally, you must throw caution to the wind and vow to make good things happen every day for the rest of your life. Once you begin charging yourself up every day rather than banging yourself around, youll quite likely find a diamond in the rough.
The Bottom Line: Learn to be tough on lifes problems and easy on yourself.
