Power Up Passages

Off Again, On Again.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

May 6, 2006.

”No one can get inner peace by pouncing on it.”
Harry Emerson Fosdick

In today’s blowing and going society, where we constantly push ourselves to the breaking point and beyond, we sometimes find ourselves feeling a bit ‘off’ of our 'A' game. On these off days, our motivation seems a little out of kilter, our drive a little out of sync. We wonder, what in the world is wrong with us?

We want to do better, but there just doesn’t seem to be any gas left in our tank. Instead of accepting the fact that nobody can be ‘on’ 100% of the time, we begin beating ourselves up — worrying ourselves sick over why we cannot give it our all, why we lack the fire and drive we usually possess.

”For fast-acting relief, try slowing down.”
Lily Tomlin

There’s no need for concern over those days when you just don’t seem to have it. We all experience off days every once in a while. When you think about it, life is a never ceasing assortment of on again, off again moments in time. The key to success is learning how to deal with your off days effectively while making the most of your ‘on’ days as well.

Look, it’s OK to have days where you’re not blowing and going at full throttle; days where you listen to what your body is telling you and ease off of the accelerator just a tad. Instead of pushing yourself to the point of total exhaustion, why not allow your mind to unwind from the grind for a few precious moments? And rather than burning yourself completely out by pushing yourself to the brink and beyond, why not choose to let your body recharge and reenergize your batteries?

”A good rest is half the work.”

There’s nothing more exhilarating than to be right smack dab in the middle of an action packed day, where everything you touch seems to turn to gold. During these exciting, electrifying ON moments, when you’re on fire and on top of the world, you have energy to burn and then some.

Each time you mash down on the gas pedal, another forceful surge of revitalizing energy jolts through your body. You pour it on and plow through the day like a house set afire. On these memorable ON days, you’ve really got in going and you know it. You can feel the unrestrained power at your disposal, savoring the flavor of a day you’ll never forget

And there’s nothing more disappointing than to wake up with the blahs and have them haunt you all day long. You know how the story goes: you ho-hum your way through the day, just barely enough energy to go through the motions. You’re not quite right and it shows.

”Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save.”
Will Rogers

So what can you do when one of those not so great days comes a’ calling? How about nothing? That’s right, instead of fighting it tooth and nail, why not let it go and let it flow? Rather than risking pushing yourself too far, why not choose to allow the occasional off day to run its course and then get back on right track tomorrow? Your main focus should be to never allow the off days to pile up.

By living your life one day at a time, you can make the most of your on days while never allowing yourself to get too down on those off days that crop up every so often. Stay focused, keep your eye on the prize and vow to bounce right back when an off day pops up.

On again, off again and back ON once more — life can sometimes feel like a wild and wooly roller coaster ride. While the lows can be rough sledding on occasion, those highs are what makes life the super sensational adventure we yearn to experience daily. As long as you make absolutely certain to get back up and get going again when an 'off' day knocks you off center or off track, your ON days will far outnumber your off days and you’ll live the life you’ve always dreamed of living.

The Bottom Line: Never allow an off day to keep you from turning your power back on.
