That which needs to be proved cannot be worth much.
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
All of us have felt the need to prove ourselves to others on occasion. In fact, you could probably call it an almost uncontrollable urge; seeking to make others sit up and take notice at that very moment. Hey, its only human nature to want to know that those around us value and appreciate our abilities and contributions; that they respect us for who we are and what we bring to the table.
The comforting, calming feeling of being accepted is a driving force that begins early in life and continues for many to this day. Unfortunately, far too many of us spend far too much time trying to woo and impress everyone all of the time; more often than not finding ourselves falling short in the process.
For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.
Why dont we ever learn that trying to prove our mettle to those around us can be a difficult, if not downright dispiriting pursuit? Trying to please virtually everyone is not only an impossible task; it can prove to be a quite degrading and demeaning experience as well.
Instead of making a positive impression and receiving a nice job or appreciative pat on the back for your outstanding hard work, many times all we receive for our extra effort is little more than a lackluster ho-hum reaction. Its almost like the person is saying, Is that all youve got? Been there? So have most of us. Done that? Ditto as well.
You prove your worth with your actions.
Have you ever wondered why we so often look to others for encouragement and reassurance, desperately hoping that they will grant us their seal of approval? Why is it that we derive so much pleasure when we are accepted by those we know and respect? And when we fail to make the grade in someone elses eyes, why do we feel so let down and hurt?
Because we need to know that what we do counts for something; that we are actually making a difference in the game of life. Something deep inside of us yearns for the respect of others, hoping upon hope that they will hold our contributions in the highest regard. After all, can there be a better feeling than that of basking in the glow of the admiration bestowed upon us by others? In a word, yes.
Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation.
D. Elton Trueblood
Getting the good old thumbs up signal from others may make you feel good, but how you feel about yourself and your God given talents are light years more important. And getting shot down by your friends, family or coworkers means squat if you want my opinion on the matter.
Come on, do you really need validation from others to prove that you do have what it takes? No way. And does what another individual thinks about you really mean all that much in the big scheme of things? Not a chance. The only person you need to prove yourself to is, you guessed it, yourself. And better yet, you do not need anyone elses say-so in the matter. Youve got what it takes and heres the proof.
God created you in His own image. He meticulously sculpted you from head to toe just the way you are, a picture perfect piece of art fashioned by His own hands. He then placed you on earth for a purpose to live your life to the fullest and to enjoy all the joy and happiness each day offers up. Instead of beating yourself up or worrying about what others think, please take comfort in knowing that God loves you and in His eyes, your best is always plenty good enough. And isnt that all the proof youll ever need?
The Bottom Line: Prove your worth through your own actions each and every day.
