Power Up Passages

When A Little Means A Lot.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

January 12, 2004.

“If you add a little to a little and do this often, soon the little will become great.”

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes come out a day late and a dollar short when you’re working on your really big goals or projects? If you’re like most of us, you know all too well how the story goes. Just at the very moment when you’re about to make a really big splash, someone or something finds a way to rain on your parade.

Instead of reveling in the gleeful delight of a happy ending, you fall short of the finish line. You know you need to regroup and give it another go, but you feel somewhat cheated, maybe even defeated — and are more than likely quite tempted to toss in the towel. “Why even try?” you ask yourself. “After all, what’s the use?”

This moment of hesitation is precisely the instant where you need to roll up your sleeves and get busy doing a little more.

“How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more effort, a little more patience would have achieved success?”
Elbert Hubbard

In a world where bigger is better and more is rarely enough, sometimes doing a little bit more can get lost in the shuffle. Think about it for a moment; don’t we now live in a society where instant gratification is the name of the game? We want what we want and we want it right now. And doing a little more means putting off what we want for a little while longer and requires a little more effort to boot. Most folks are just not prepared to pay that price for success.

So what about you? When things don’t go according to plan and you wind up with the short end of the stick, do you immediately regroup and give it another shot — or do you instead throw up your hands and call it quits?

If you’re willing to do a little more here and a little more there, you’ll be amazed at how a little more effort, a little more focus and a little more commitment can take you literally anywhere you have dreamed of going.

“Do a little more each day than you think you possibly can.”
Lowell Thomas

The secret to unlocking your immense God given potential — those incredible, extraordinary, truly remarkable gifts and talents you hold within yourself — is to get in the healthy habit of giving, doing and trying a little more each and every time out. And get there as quickly as you can!

Now I will grant you that it won’t be an easy gig. After all, it’s a whole lot easier to run for cover or run up the white flag at the first sign of trouble. But when give a little more, you reach deep inside yourself and gain access to that super charged reservoir of strength and courage that burns brightly in your heart and soul.

Before you know it, you’ll have made doing a little more a way of life and all of those ‘little’ things will begin to add up to a whole lot in a big time hurry. Then you’ll want to keep doing a little more… and a little more after that.

“Four short words sum up what has lifted most successful individuals above the crowd: a little bit more. They did all that was expected of them and a little bit more.”
A. Lou Vickery

While the majority of the crowd will repeatedly refuse to go that extra mile, you cannot afford to make that same mistake. Far too many people back away from a little extra effort and a little extra exertion because it sounds a lot like work to them. And that’s something they want to avoid at all costs. And it costs them plenty. Their do the bare minimum approach to living prevents them from fulfilling their date with destiny.

Sydney Smith said, “It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can do only a little. Do what you can.” What simple yet powerfully profound advice to follow.

You should strive to always do what you can and do it with every ounce of energy and enthusiasm you can generate. When you’re willing to do whatever it takes to finish the task at hand — even when it requires a little more than you previously bargained for — you’ve got the makings of a super sensational life.

The Bottom Line: As long as you’re willing to do a little more — and keep doing it — you will never have to worry about doing without.
