Power Up Passages

The Power of One Idea.

Brought to you by
The Power Performance Program ©

January 3, 2004.

Ideas won’t keep;
Something must be done about them.”

Alfred North Whitehead

Most of us are familiar with the old phrase, “A penny for your thoughts,” where we would gladly pay a penny to know what’s on somebody else’s mind. And while what someone else is thinking may prove interesting, the thoughts and ideas we hold in our own minds are the most important by far.

Ideas have always been the life blood of creativity, the starting place for all achievement. Some of the most successful companies on earth have always had one thing in common: they were once nothing more than an innovative idea that forcefully emerged from the mind of an imaginative individual. By taking that original idea and then tweaking it here and twisting it there, the inspiration turned into a reality — an idea whose time had come.

“Ideas are a dime a dozen. People who implement them are priceless.”
Mary Kay Ash

And some of the greatest discoveries ever made share a common thread: they started out as creative thoughts that popped into a pioneering mind — a mind ready, willing and able to take the idea and give it a go. Instead of allowing the idea to fade as quickly as it arrived, the enterprising individual took this flash of brilliance and exhaustively worked on it until he or she painstakingly brought it to fruition.

Without a doubt, these priceless ideas were not of the penny ante variety; not by a long shot. No, these were power packed ideas; ideas so compelling that they actually shook the recipients to their very core. At these moments of truth, they could clearly see right there in front of them a powerful portrayal of what could be and what they could accomplish, if they had the courage to follow their dreams.

Would they jump at the chance to turn their creative juices loose, finding a way to turn their lives completely around or would they instead turn their backs on opportunity once again? That very question must be answered by every one of us each and every day as dozens upon dozens of ideas stream through our imaginations.

Do we take these ideas and set sail or do we stay anchored in port? Do we take a stab at something different and something new; or do we just keep doing the same old, same old over and over again? Come on, which way do you really want to live your life?

“The innovation point is the pivotal moment when talented and motivated people seek the opportunity to act on their ideas and dreams.”
W. Arthur Porter

I would like you to take a moment and think about some of the super exciting, super incredible ideas that you have held in your heart in the last few days. Now I’m not talking about some lukewarm, run of the mill ideas that kind of gets you going or sort of turns you on. No, I’m talking about those ideas you would give just about anything to make them happen.

That’s right; we’re talking about earth shaking, life changing, it just cannot get any better than this type of ideas that you would dearly love to achieve. OK, got that picture? Now I want you to imagine how incredibly great you would feel if you actually pulled them off and made them come true. Now that would be something, wouldn't it? And if you could make these remarkable dreams come alive in your life, what other fabulous things could you do as well?

By instantly acting on your ideas instead of lazily daydreaming about them, isn’t there a chance that you could start living a life that you love while loving the life that you live? You bet! Best of all, all this can happen — and happen quite quickly as a matter of fact — if you’ll simply grab your ideas and run with them.

One's mind once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes

On any given day, our minds house countless ideas that could, if given the chance, make a pronounced difference in our lives and those around us as well. These ideas come in all shapes and sizes. Some are really big, some really small and some somewhere in between. These ideas zoom in and out, here one moment and then gone in a jiff.

A brand spanking new idea can be one of the most exciting, if not the most exciting moments of your day. How does it feel when all of a sudden and seemingly out of nowhere, an incredible, almost out of this world idea bursts on the scene right in front of you? In a flash, you feel super jazzed about taking this new idea out for a test drive, don’t you? So why do you sometimes fail to seize the moment and snatch these ideas as they occur? More than likely, you’re not ready when the moment occurs.

So let’s get ready, OK? Lord Byron told us that “Our thoughts take the wildest flight.” So maybe, just maybe, the best way to capture these ever elusive thoughts and ideas is to take flight with them, holding on tight as they take us to places we’ve only dreamed of going.

By ditching that old way of thinking and adopting a new approach, fueled by new ideas, you’ll soon set off a positive charged chain reaction that cannot be stopped; where one new idea is followed by another and then another. More ideas than you can presently imagine, more ideas than you can ever hope to handle. John Steinbeck hit the nail on the head when he said this about ideas: “Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen.” Or more!

“There is one thing stronger than all the armies in the world; and that is an idea whose time has come.”
Victor Hugo

All you need to do is grab those ideas that really grab you and then make absolutely sure that you never stop working them until you get where you’ve always dreamed of going. By unlocking the potential power stored inside just one good idea or two, you can quickly get things rolling your way. You should never forget that anything and everything worthwhile in life sprang from an idea; an idea whose time had come.

Got a good idea — or maybe even two — or three? Then why not take a chance and see where these ideas can take you? You’ll never know how good your life can get until you are willing to take your ideas and throw your heart and soul into making them come true.

The Bottom Line: One good idea is all you need to make today a super sensational day. So grab one and get going!
