“It is faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes a life worth looking at.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes

There are two basic ways to go through life. You can consistently look on the bright side of things, choosing to overlook the down side of life or alternatively, you can constantly take a doom and gloom perspective, electing to ignore all of the fabulous opportunity that each day provides.

You can savor the flavor of every delectable moment of every single day, looking to squeeze as much fun, excitement and happiness from each and every day while having the time of your life in the process. Or you can close your eyes to the best life has to offer, allowing life’s problems and difficulties to overwhelm and overpower you while leaving you with nothing more than a bad taste in your mouth.

“What we see depends mainly on what we look for.”
John Lubbock

When it comes to making our lives everything we want them to be and more, the old saying of “what you see is what you get” hits the nail square on the head. There’s no doubt about it, the manner in which you choose to look at things will decide what you ultimately get to look at.

If you are looking to make your move and start making history (and who isn’t?), doesn’t it make a lot of sense to cast your gaze UPWARD? You bet it does! Come on, do you for one minute really believe that looking at the rotten side of things can move us anywhere we truly want to go? The ONLY way to soar above the crowd is to look up, up and away — and then keep looking that way.

“Throughout the centuries there were men who took first steps, down new roads, armed with nothing but their own vision."
Ayn Rand

Way back on a cold morning on December 17, 1903, perched on the sandy Outer Banks of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, two visionaries named Orville and Wilbur Wright soared into the history books as their flying contraption lifted itself a few feet off the ground and flew 120 feet. And while the world’s first powered airplane only stayed aloft for all of twelve seconds, where do you suppose every ounce of their attention was turned — toward the sky or back down at the ground? Skyward, of course! Why? Because the sky was where these gentlemen desperately wanted to go. These men did what many thought could never be done — and the whole world has been flying ever since.

When Yuri Gagarin became the first man to orbit the planet on April 12, 1961, flying off to where no man had ever gone before, where do you imagine his attention was focused? As his spaceship thundered off its launching pad and blasted into the sky, do you really think he was looking back down towards the ground? Hardly.

And what about Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide Tensing Norgay who scaled the summit of Mount Everest in the Himalayas on May 29, 1953, reaching the Earth's highest point? Did they climb miles above sea level by looking up… or looking down? I’m sure you get the point.

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time.”
Anna Freud

Rest assured, you can get anywhere you have ever dreamed of going by first looking within. There, hidden deep inside your heart and soul, you will uncover a buried treasure that can take you anyplace you desire. By looking inside of yourself, you open your eyes to the brighter, happier and cheerier side of life — the kind of life you have longed to live for oh so long.

And since what you see is what you get, why not make certain that what you’re seeing is precisely what you want out of life? Remember, nothing is ever out of your reach when you are willing to set your sights high and then daring enough to give life your very best shot daily. Once you begin looking upward and begin gazing towards the heavens above, you’ll soon find yourself dancing amongst the stars.

The Bottom Line:
Things will definitely be looking up as long as you keep looking on the bright side of things.
