“The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.”
Robert Green Ingersoll

Life can sometimes resemble a rip roaring roller coaster ride, with each day offering up more twists and turns and ups and downs than the wildest ‘scream machine’ ever built. One moment, it can feel like you’re almost walking on air — where everything you touch turns to gold. As you rock and roll along, having the time of your life riding the wave of the proverbial hot streak, it almost seems as if you can do no wrong. With everything going your way, you reel off one glorious achievement after another.

At other times, life’s challenges can feel like the weight of the entire world is crushing down on top of you — rendering you feeling completely helpless. You begin to wonder "what in the heck is going on here?" Instead of chalking up one win after another like you did when you were on a roll, losing has now become the name of the game. All of a sudden, now mired in what appears to be a never ending losing skid, the exciting ride of your life has ground to an abrupt halt.

“Failure is an event, never a person; an attitude, not an outcome.”
Zig Ziglar

The manner in which you handle success and even more importantly, the way you deal with defeat speaks volumes about you and your character. Hey, let’s face it; none of us likes to lose. Losing is a real bummer and besides, winning is a heck of a lot more fun anyway.

But like it or not, we need to come to grips with the fact that we are going to come out on the short end of the stick now and again. And that means losing on occasion. But then again, so what? Failing, in and of itself, is really no big deal. Oh sure, getting knocked down may hurt our pride a bit, but it doesn't hurt for long if we'll just hop back in the saddle. As long as we can muster the courage to get up, get better and then get going again, everything will ultimately turn out fine.

“The person interested in success has to learn to view failure as a healthy, inevitable part of the process of getting to the top.”
Dr. Joyce Brothers

Throughout history, the very best have always been those individuals who were knocked down harder and more often than those who chose to sit on the sidelines. Yet these power performers optimistically viewed any setback as only temporary in nature; nothing more than a momentary growing pain, another chance to hone their skills.

Rather than risk staying down and becoming stuck in a losing slump, they quickly pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and searched out a better, smarter and faster way to do it the next time around. And then instead of waiting for that next time to come around, they got busy and weaved something positive out of the negative experience right then and there. In a nutshell, they became SOAR LOSERs and so should you.

“Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.”
Henry Ford

Since losing is every bit a part of living as the air we breathe, why not choose to become a soar loser yourself? As soon as you appreciate the fact that losing can actually help you get better — in fact a whole lot better — you can begin taking life’s lemons and start making some sweet tasting lemonade.

The real question is not whether or not you’re going to lose, because sooner or later you will, but how you will handle adversity when it comes calling. Whenever you encounter difficulties in life, please remember this little catchphrase: simply get up, get better and get going again. And why not look at the bright side of things? After all, the great thing about losing is that there is only way to go from there — and that way is always UP. Here’s wishing you a super sensational trip!

The Bottom Line: Life’s setbacks, big and small alike, can pave the way for some truly memorable comebacks.
