"Great things are done when men and mountains meet."
We all dream of making great things happen, of accomplishing some truly amazing things in our lives. Rarely does a day go by that we do not hold a crystal clear picture of ourselves achieving our hopes and aspirations in our minds, seeing our dreams come alive in resplendent detail. There, lost in the magical bliss of the moment, we can actually FEEL ourselves living out our fantasies.
So what keeps us from making these dreams come true? In a nutshell, a potpourri of OBSTACLES and PROBLEMS. It sometimes seems like everywhere we turn, obstacles and problems arise, attempting to drive a stake between us and the fulfillment of our goals. And regardless of whether we like it or not, obstacles and problems are as much a part of everyday living as our daydreaming about the good life.
"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves."
Sir Edmund Hillary
Each day presents us with an array of challenges that test our resolve, resiliency and tenacity. And while it sometimes seems as if these obstacles are insurmountable mountain peaks, too high and too imposing to overcome; we must overcome them if we are to fulfill our dates with destiny.
Overcoming lifes obstacles is like climbing a mountain. And climbing that mountain first and foremost requires that we actually believe we can do it. Now were not talking about thinking or hoping we can make it up and over the mountain top. No, what we are talking about is KNOWING we can make it without a doubt or question in our minds. Only this type of steadfast belief, in ourselves and our God given abilities, can provide the driving force needed to catapult us up and over any problem we encounter.
"For every mountain, there is a miracle."
Robert H. Schuler
The primary reason so many people fail to set and achieve the really big goals of life is very simple these goals are really BIG. Its as if they are standing at the base of an enormous mountain, peering skyward at the mammoth task before them.
The mountain is too steep they tell themselves, the summit way too high. Rather than focusing on the first few steps they need to take to start their ascent of the mountain, they stand frozen as if paralyzed by the enormity of the mountain itself. But as John Wanamaker once said, "One may walk over the highest mountain one step at a time."
"The difference between a mountain and a molehill is your perspective."
Once you take that first step, summoning the courage needed to make your life everything you have ever imagined it could become and more, you begin the process of conquering one mountain after another. As a matter of fact, you can cut any mountain down to size when you keep yourself focused on doing what needs to be done, when it needs to be done.
Its time to break out your climbing gear and start scaling the mountains you encounter each and every day. When you do, youll discover that youll love the air up there and even better, youll enjoy the breath taking view you can enjoy only when you're sitting on top of the world.
The Bottom Line: You can move the highest mountain one pebble at a time.
