What is a lifetime of living your dreams worth to you?

July 19, 2003.

"For of all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these: It might have been!"
John Whittier

How many times have we heard others say that they wished they had lived their lives a different way — with a little more vigor and verve, maybe a little more fun and excitement? More than a few times I would wager.

And how often have we listened as others have openly lamented about how their time in the sun has set and that it is now too late in life for them to do what they’ve always wanted to do? Plenty of times to be sure.

These folks now believe that the good times that they could have, should have and wished they would have enjoyed are gone — and gone for good.

"It's never too late to be what you might have been."
George Eliot

How about you? Have you ever thought, even for a fleeting moment, that the best of your life is now in your rear view mirror? More than likely, you’ve harbored these thoughts on occasion. Hey, don’t worry; we all have from time to time.

And have you ever believed that it was too late for you to live the life you’ve always imagined, too late to be "what you might have been?" Since most of us have, you’re hardly alone if you have worried that the best of life has passed you by.

And while some of your life may have passed through the hour glass, please remember this always: the best of your life is the rest of your life. And best of all, it is NEVER too late to be a late bloomer in life.

"Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late."
Benjamin Franklin

How about this for an idea? Instead of fussing, fuming and fretting about the past, why don't we start redirecting our energies and focus on the beauty of the here and now. Regardless of how old, or for that matter how young we are, we still have time to take in all of the magnificent splendor every minute of every day affords us all.

Rather than waste another second thinking about what we don’t have, let’s give thanks for what we do have right now. Instead of allowing another day to be frittered away, with nothing to show for it than more regrets and remorse about another day laid to waste, why not make this day a dazzling twenty four hours which you will cherish forever — a glorious day that you'll never forget?

Life is and always has been about making choices. You can choose to squander and throw away your precious time on earth — watching the life you could have lived slowly slip away — or you can get busy fashioning a lifetime of achievement right now. And no, it’s never to late to turn your life around and make it the super charged, super sensational, super duper fun filled adventure it deserves to be.

"The time for action is now. It's never too LATE to do something."
Carl Sandburg

What kind of special 'something' do you hold down in your heart and soul that's just aching to get out? Each and every one of us hold inside of ourselves these special somethings that give our lives a sense of purpose and meaning. We'll never know how good our lives can become until we have the courage to give them a try. And it's never to late to do so.

You can use your time worrying that it’s too late or you can begin squeezing all you can out of life. You can toss out the "I’m too old, too young or too this or that or the other" round of excuses — or you can choose to toss the excuses aside once and for all and live the life you’ve always wanted to live.

"Live your life and forget your age."
Norman Vicnent Peale

It’s never too late or too early to fashion your life to your exacting specifications. Since you get to do the choosing, why not choose to take on the challenge of making your life a dream come true and take off today? The great thing about life that it is never too late to be a late bloomer.

The Bottom Line: When it comes to making your life everything you have dreamed it could be and more — being a little late is a whole lot better than never.
